New here

Postby Julie444 » Tue Nov 26, 2024 3:38 pm

My name is Julie and I am new here.
I used to be at Safe Haven back in 2005 but its gone now.
I went to the dentist this morning and all of a sudden I am back in 2005. Everything is back to when I was 25. Problem is I was so sick back then. I had to spend a year at the psych ward going through trauma therapy. My anorexia and self injury was completly out of control.
My therapist is going to have some work to do tomorrow, he is new to this.

So I dont remember writing the previous post. I am Norwegian but have always had a voice in English in my head. It seems like this voice can also take control. I also texted my current therapist in English and wrote a letter to a previous therapist.
I got admitted to the psych ward a few days ago to stabilize me, and try to prevent me from becoming manic since I also suffer from bipolar 1.
I have been trying to avoid talking to my therapist about my dissociation, but recently attended a psych educational therapy group for complex dissociation patients, and now I am unable to use avoidance as a defence mechanism anymore.

Well hello and welcome!

So you'll be talking to the therapist about the dissociation then I take it. I think that's much better than trying to cover it up.

I'm fascinated by the idea of alts using a different primary language, I'm not sure I've seen anyone in this forum mention that sort of thing before, although it seems very reasonable when someone/a system knows more than one language, that something like that might be the case.

Hello, welcome,

I'm sorry to hear about the stressful times you've been through. It might be good if your therapist is new to this. They'll go into it with an open mind and new energy.

Definitely good to talk about your struggles. Covering it up will just make things harder.

I have a part that needs to be taught the mother tongue too, but frankly English is a better language anyway so you can imagine how well that is going. Difference is, my parts don't cause trouble for me. I get stressed and anxious and lose time, but they fill me in on what I've missed and they do a good job protecting me when I'm out so I've specifically told my therapists I didn't want to fix the "issue". They respected that so if losing your parts is something you're worried about, just letting you know that you can talk about this without that risk.

It's a little complex when you also have bipolar 1 because parts can be interpreted as psychosis. Hopefully you're not suffering a manic episode currently but if you are then I wish you the best. It's good you're being looked out for.

Hi Julie,

Welcome to the forum. We hope you're doing OK in the hospital. People get stressed sometimes and it's good to have a safe place to go. We agree with Triskelion that you don't have to give up any parts to have a good life. At least we didn't - which is good because I'm a part (at least not I'm not the host, which I guess technically makes me a 'part').

Kind of cool that you have a part that speaks English.

Get better soon!!! :D

Given that different parts have been found to primarily reside in different parts of the brain it would make sence that a pollylingual person would have alters with different mother tounges. If the alter happens to reside in the area that is also used for storing a perticular language then that's what they are going to think and communicate in.

https://neurolaunch.com/did-brain-scan/ is a decent write up on brain imaging and DID

Hope you start feeling more ballence soon. Good luck with your therapist and welcome to the forum
