Introduction + need some help

Postby FinMarsouin » Sat Aug 14, 2021 7:51 am

Hi there, I'm Fin Marsouin.
I'm the host of a system of three known alters: me, my protector Sheep, and one little, Spider (don't worry guys those are pseudonyms)
We mostly don't experience time loss, though switching makes us nauseous somehow.
We also all have access to our inner world, at least some part of it.

So here's my issue:
Sheep is also a trauma holder, and sometimes he gets stuck in some sort of loop in his room, where he keeps reliving his traumas.
Usually he manages to break out of the loop when triggered, but lately even that doesn't work.
I'm very worried for him, but i don't have access to his room, anytime i try to enter everything just blurs and next thing you know I'm somewhere else.
I have no idea what to do. We always took care of ourselves alone, because DID is not recognized as a disorder in my country (so to be honest I'm not even sure that we have DID, I've just researched it a lot aswell as other dissociative disorders and this is what we seem to have).
But now, I'm alone, Sheep is in a very bad place, and Spider desperately needs her dad.
Does anyone have tips? Mental exercises to help me get in his room, or get him out of there?

Hello and welcome! You are not the only one who has a problem with DID not being acknowledged in their country- seriously, if it's in both the DSM and the ICD I don't know how that can be.

Hello! There is a good exercice book for DID that is called "Coping with trauma related dissociation". If it's not available for whatever reason, try to look for anchoring and relaxation exercises.

Anchoring Sheep into the "here and now" so that he can remember that the trauma time is over, can help breaking the loop. There are other things that can help break the loop such as, doing small intellectual tasks that are repetitive, kinda easy but not to the point that it is possible to dissociate while doing them.

Another thing that can be done is, creating a safe space in the Innerworld where Sheep can go to be safe from the trauma loops.

A lot of protector (adapted or misadapted) are trauma holders in a way. We feel you.

Don't give up on him. Because when the loop does break knowing you didn't give up will meet a lot ( it might even help him fight the next one, knowing someone cares that much about him.)

You might not be able to get into his room because he keeps the trauma there. I know we all have areas where the others can't go because that's where our individual traumas are. If you have a dedicated mondsxape architect you could as them to modify one of the doors into a fire escape maybe? If not then that's something sheep will need to work on himself.

Have you done sensory countdown before? 5 things you can see, 4 things you can hear, 3 things you can feel , 2 things you can smell, 1 thing you can touch.
Ask sheep those questions ( one at a time) it doesn't matter if the initial answer is based on the trauma he is in. Don't try to corect, if he is in trauma the fact that he is replying is a breakthrough. Ask it again and again until he gives a detail that you know is from his room. Is "I see a door handle" . Then try to guide a physical response is. "How does the door handle feel?" . If he responds to that "cold/smooth" etc then give an instruction ie " turn the handle is the door locked?"

By getting him to focus on an aspect of his surroundings and interact with them you should hopefully break the trauma loop. Don't contradict what is said to you and don't try to insist they ground to the outside world and definitely definatly don't try to emotional blackmail into coming out (no plees from spider about missing her dad) . The aim of the game is to keep them talking so they have an anchor in your voice. Anything that contradicts the reality before them trauma/inner could cause them to reject your voice. They need to realise that something is missing themselves.
