Does anyone else get triggered by breathing exercises? Do you have insight as to why?

It seems to me that there can be a thousand reasons. I will just pick a few.
trauma-related:
- breathing was restricted during trauma
- breathing draws awareness to body parts we usually don't pay attention to, so it's the body awareness that feels triggering, not the breathing itself
- audible breath can remind of abusers
- you name it, it is your trauma history
Physiology
when we live in constant dysregulation in our nervous system (flight/fight/freeze) that starts to feel normal. Breathing is a fast way to regulate and create a relaxation in the nervous system.
people in chronic flight/fight often feel like they are losing control when they relax, so it doesn't feel safe and they panic.
People in chronic dissociation/freeze will enter flight/fight for a moment on their way to relax. those body sensations feel like panic by nature. it would pass if we would regulate some more, but it is common to just spin back into dissociation.
This is more a problem with relaxation and chronic tension at its core, but it feels like being triggered.
In the end you will have to do your own reflection and self-awareness to figure out what it is you are experiencing. it is not like someone on the internet could tell you. especially trauma triggers can be very very specific and nobody can tell you about them but you.
