A&E's "Many Sides of Jane" show

Postby Zor » Wed Jan 09, 2019 3:20 pm

So in a few weeks a new show on A&E comes out, "Many Sides of Jane". About a woman with DID.

I find myself apprehensive about this. :?

A write up about it from the network:

Kind of my thoughts. The friend that mentioned it to us (my wife and I) said "unlike you, her's manifest". He was quickly corrected by BOTH of us. Mine do... even if he's unaware of interacting with them (in person) in the past.

My biggest fear is that they'll sensationalize her story, this "Jane"... OR that people will see this and assume EVERYONE is exactly like her... but then again, it's better than people seeing "Split" and assuming we're all psychotic monsters waiting to murder people with our super powers... :?

I watched the trailer. It's a documentary, so hopefully they will strive for accuracy. It's hard to imagine someone's motives for wanting to open this up for public scrutiny. I mean, it's a great goal to want to reduce stigma and increase awareness--I'm all for that. But she said that her boys don't know about it. What happens the first time one of their classmates says, "There's a TV show where your mom turns into different people!"?

Cr*p. Not again.

One day I'm going to do my own movie.

Person with DID wakes up. Goes to work. Spends a sh*tload on therapy. Goes home. Fixes dinner. Tries to sleep. Gets up. Journals. Gets dressed. Goes to work. Repeat.

The Hidden Story of DID. F-ing thrill a minute.

When they say 'be yourself',
which one do they mean?

Another quotable quote from you guys. We agree completely.

We're trying hard not to prejudge, but the fact that it's on an entertainment network rather than, say, PBS....well, that makes us a bit wary.

Amen! Daily life with DID... oh and "little surprises" when you realize something happened or time passed you didn't know about.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but NAMI has a good reputation and is a generally decent entity, right? Is this cause to have SOME hope for this show?
