Strange Memory Thing

Postby VioletFlux » Thu Aug 09, 2018 4:30 pm

I was just thinking about the bike crash we had this morning, sort of like reviewing it in my thoughts as if I was telling someone about it, and suddenly I'm having sort of a strange memory issue.

When it happened, I was positive that is the first time we've crashed the bike. Like in 18 months or whatever since we got the bike we've been really careful and lucky not to have fallen or crashed, until this morning.

But just now, thinking about it again, it's like I can remember another crash, with a lot of the same details. Just no idea of when it happened. I'd have assumed that I was remembering a different but real crash that I'd previously forgotten, except one detail is identical to this morning which makes me believe it's the same event but somehow got 'recorded' twice?

At the time there was no sense of deja-vu or anything, only now, more than 4 hours later when thinking about it again, that I suddenly 'remember' it happening twice.

I'm kind of baffled as to what's going on... like I'm used to forgetting things, I'm not used to noticing memories getting duplicated.

Could it be that I'm remembering the same crash from the perspective of another part?

p.s. does anyone else do that? Replaying events in your head as if telling a story to someone else? I don't know why I do it but I do it a lot...

I haven't had any issues with duplicate memories. But the rehearsing conventions we do a lot. Not just how we would tell people about things that have happened but any conversation we have considered the possibility of occurring in the future. Most of the time we don't use the practice conversation but they help us feel more prepared and confident when interacting with the outside world.
