Thank you, Sarandipity, the Gang and MDs.

I took a long walk and that helped.

It is an expression in my culture, at least among older people, I think. She was talking about rebellious teenagers that may not accept the current measures of staying home, etc. I think she realized her "mistake", because she added: "so they would need to have a stern conversation". But I'd already spiralled away inside and was so triggered I could barely move or see straight or talk.
Maybe she didn't notice, I don't know. I told her, but maybe she didn't realize.

Either way, some protector parts are clearly like: "Ok, fun and games are over. Stay the hell away from her!" and I think it is fair. She is scary, even if she doesn't mean to be. And she told us today of other people she is talking to, so I feel less bad for "letting her down". This is just not something I'm willing to deal with on top of everything else. It's not safe for me.

We're glad that it helped you to take a walk, fireheart.

It's good that the woman didn't act out of malice, but we certainly understand your need to back away from her. You need to take care of you first.

We're grateful that we live in an apartment complex with a reliable backup power system, and that we did not lose power, cable, phone, or internet during Hurricane Isaías. One of our brothers did. He's mildly disabled and sometimes has difficulty figuring things out or understanding complex concepts.

His power came back relatively quickly, but cable/phone/internet have been out for a day if not more. We're unable to get through to the cable company on his behalf. Not by phone, not by chat, not by social media. They just don't respond.

Tens of thousands of people in the NYC metro area are without service, and the f*cking cable company can't be bothered to respond to people or even provide updates. They deserve to rot in a hell of their own making.

Update: After we posted here last night, we sent a complaint to the local branch of the Better Business Bureau. They sent a standard autoresponse that they would look into it. It probably won't get us anything, but it felt good to do something constructive.

A few minutes ago we tried dialing our brother's landline for the umpteenth time, and to our surprise, it rang. To our further surprise, he was home, having taken a day off from work.

We asked him to check his internet, which was also working again--much to our mutual relief.

Sigh.

Thanks, Gang.

Now on to the next salute. :?

Backstory: We mailed our brother (same one) a birthday card on June 29th. It had a $25.00 gift card in it. It didn't get delivered to him in the same county until 26 days later, well after his birthday. With everything going on with the postal service nowadays, we're lucky that he got it at all.

Then there's the even more consequential matter of the $141.25 payment to our psychiatrist (also in the same county) on June 23rd. She still hasn't received it the check. We complained to our post office, to her post office, and to the 800 number for USPS. All of them said to put a stop payment on the check and send a new one.

Send a new one? Really? Through the same f*cked-up postal service? I don't think so.

We then called the doctor's receptionist to tell her what happened. She and the doctor are physically at the office but are only seeing people online. We agreed to come to the building with the new check and slip it through the mail slot in the office door.

To be continued.

A scammer just left 11 messages on our disabled brother's landline. :x

B2 called us, anxious and upset. So we asked him for the phone number and Googled it, finding out that it was an IRS / Social Seccurity / Canada Revenue scammer with a long record.

So we kept B2 on the phone while we narrated the fix. "I'm logging into your telecom account. I'm going to the call-block page and adding that specific number. It's now blocked, and I've logged out. You can delete the phone messages."

Enough going on in the world right now. We don't need this $#!+.

There are few things more satisfying to me personally than hanging up the phone after an hour-plus phone call with our career coach and then letting out an audible raspberry at maximum energy level.
