SCREW MY THERAPIST ! I NEED YOUR EXPERIENCE !

Postby RaniaPrince » Fri Apr 24, 2015 4:33 pm

Hello,
i had a major depression for the past 10 months ( that started without any obvious reason btw) and then suddenly all the symptoms and depressive beliefs went away ( i wasn't on medications ) . i started feeling "normal" once again, i could interact more with people, study...etc
then my mood kept going higher and higher, my level of activity became very high as well, i talked excessively, and when i had no one to talk to i would spend hours and hours talking to myself and laughing uncontrolably i also had many other symptoms, and when i looked it up on the internet they were all symptoms of mania/hypomania.
After few weeks, I went to a therapist to seek the answers to all of my questions, but at that time the symptoms were gone and replaced by a depressive behaviour , he diagnosed me with major depression and an anxiety disorder ( he didn't even tell me which anxiety disorder i had) and he totally ignored the symptoms i mentioned to him ( feelings of euphoria, excessive talking, loss of interest in sleeping and eating ..etc) he said it's normal to have these symptoms after going through depression...is that true ? did u have similar symptoms after a depressive episode ?

Uhmmmmm.... yes I did have those symptoms following depression. But I also happen to have a Bipolar I diagnose...

Depending on the country you live in a therapist might or might not be authorised to diagnose. Here in the Netherlands only a psychiatrist can diagnose you. Perhaps you should try going to a psychiatrist, especially someone specialised in mood disorders?

Greetings!

Your therapist sounds like an idiot. I would suggest trying to see a different one. The odds of that happening again are really low. I have have seen multiple therapists in my life and none would have made that kind of response. Hope you get to feeling better.

Sounds like your therapist may have been struck with the stupid stick.

You need to get a second (or third) opinion.
Take an online bipolar test. Start reading.

Go back with your findings?¿

All those symptoms sound very familiar as I do have bipolar. I'm diagnosed after many years of having it.

Do see your doctor and seek a referral to a psychiatrist. Don't sit around and wait for it to get worse, act now.

The only thing about depression and acting with some of those symptoms was me having psychosis with depression. And for me that didn't go away on it's own. But again, everyone is different so you could respond differently.

Do you have an update?

Many therapists have no clue what they're talking about. Go to a competent psychiatrist with over 30+ years experience for a REAL diagnosis.
