Jaded and cynical

Postby ArchCannon » Fri Feb 08, 2019 3:31 am

I am a 20 years old NEET with no motivation to change anything about it.

For the longest time I was told to 'grow up', that things like passion, enthusiasm and enjoyment are childish and I need to grow out of these things. So now that I'm an adult, I did grow out of them.
However, it sucks. It stripped me of all hope and motivation. And the only way I'm able to feel happiness is through self harm.
Is this what being an adult is about?

Does growing up and becoming an adult mean growing jaded and cynical?

Hi ArchCannon,

I think that many “adults” are just children, playing their image of adults.
Unfortunately, we can't know this reality when we are children, and furthermore we need others; so we change ourselves following their ideas.
It's understandable, but this way we don't become adults with a fully developed personality, but just children that play an adult role.
Today we can try to become ourselves. Not just “adults”, but fully developed people. I personally believe that this is the road to realization. We are all, we were all if we weren't conditioned by society and judgment. We are strong and weak, tender and hard, cynical and emotional, and so on...
I would try to give attention to every aspect of your personality, even if it's minimal. If you will look at yourself with any prejudice, you could discover new traits of yourself.
