I don't see this as unusual at all , nor do I see it as a outright lie . The truth is , your parents were busy ( somewhere else ) and not including the information that they were not physically on the premises does not make that statement untrue .

It's just not a safe or good option to advertise to any stranger that a child is home alone .

Thanks for the post, I learned A LOT! Would you say most liars or pathological liars are bipolar?

No . I wouldn't and I think it's a mistake to generalize . There can be many different reasons why people develop the compulsion to lie .

Bipolar disorder is not one of them , to my knowledge . Please be wary of using one type of mental illness / disorder to explain another . Only a qualified mental health professional can make those judgments .

It was only a question. Are you a qualified mental health professional?

Sorry Sobriety , if my reply came off as a criticism or "scoldy" . It wasn't meant to be .

Twas my viewpoint , that's all . None of us here are professionals .

I have only just found this forum after my twenty year relationship been more or less to a finish about my lying in our relationship, i have read the opening post and found it very usfull but now being almost 50 i cant see a way forward to change this issue ,with me i can relate to 90% of resons for lying.
Please understand what i have been lying about is not the issue its the lie’s and the time span.
Dont get me wrong i have remorse over it but even now i have been caught out i am having difficulty in being honest in truth my wife us having to drag it out of me and now wants to have a lie detector test if which she says if i am lying we are done the problems is i dont honestly know over the years what is and what is not the truth.
I honsetly think I am not cut out for a long term relationship and better off on my own for all involed

Hey there, I can't believe this thread is so long haha... I just realized a few days ago that I have a problem with compulsive lying, I had lied to my partner so many times about things in my past, and even a couple of times about smaller but memorable things and I came clean about everything yesterday, it's been really difficult, I had done some research so I told him about it and about how I will do everything to change because I really don't like this side of myself and it's been hurting me for too long... He said it's hard to trust me again tho, he has tried to do it several times but I didn't know it was such a big problem in me so I didn't know how to start fixing it... Now that I'm aware of it I will put all my energy into changing it... It hurts so badly because I can't help but blame myself for all the hurt he must be going through and in general I've been dealing with anxiety about other stuff and it's just pretty overwhelming... I kinda wish this was talked about more cause it was such a relief knowing that I wasn't a horrible person and I just have to learn to love myself and I don't know how many people may be struggling with something similar and don't even know, and there is such a big stigma around lying like it makes you the worst person ever... I'm really sad but I'm happy I found this and can learn from it.

Interesting necrothread. I was raised by a compulsive liar with low insight. I would say I lie to protect my privacy. I have a sibling that is the lying king. I’m not judging. Isn’t everyone a liar to some extent? It’s on a spectrum maybe.
