*trigger warning*
If someone unintentionally brutally beat and strangled a stray cat to death with his bare hands in a fit of blinding rage, would that qualify as a "brief psychotic disorder"? Mind you, this person has no history of animal cruelty whatsoever, and later feels both deeply shameful and horrified by his sudden shocking and despicably cruel and violent behavior. But, also feels vaguely triumphant, because he killed something that hurt him bad. Or maybe he killed something symbolic. Something that reminds him of himself. Someone he deeply despises.

I don't know. I think it would be best for that person to speak to a therapist or psych about it. Both in order to work out the basis. Whether it would have that label / diagnosis. And in terms of tackling the issues to prevent harm to other animals or people in future.
