Blog Subject:  Voxels are equivalent to polygons and vise versa.

An object made with triangles and textures is equivalent to rendering Rotated cube voxels with triangular seams. So you could render the voxel components and seams differently.
Not only that but textures can behave more like voxels taking advantage of imperfect rotations to convey 3d better.
Each voxel is made of triangles so it's equivalent the other way round.
