Blog Subject: | Business Tips Appreciated by NicS, C.Nic |
I'm looking into opening a business, because no one wants to hire students. So ###$ em. Anyone got any tips, PM me, anytime, anyplace. You have business advice, just tell me in the comments below or in a PM. If your reading this 10 years from now, send in advice anyway. Anything you can tell me to get my feet on the ground will help. Were aiming for an advertising firm, because there is a severe lack of that around here. Most ads are just made by idiots with DV cameras, edited with stock music and, really, no talent. We are REALLY good at filming, so we're hoping we can pull this off. Any and all tips are appreciated, comment below or PM me your advice. I will take anything besides "Yeah, don't do it". I have no other options than joining the army or getting onto welfare, and I refuse to do either. So don't hesitate, send it in. There is no timer on this post, so if 2 weeks from now, you still have advice, send it in. If in 5 years, you have a tip, let me know. Thanks! -NicS, C.Nic |

Do it! My random thoughts: Don't undersell yourself. It's hard to get the prices right when starting out. But much harder to raise those prices later on when people are used to them. Don't work for vague promises of future work. If someone says "do one cheap and if we like it, it could lead to five more", reply "great, but I'll do the first at my usual rates, and will give you a 10% discount if you book 2 or more after that." With whatever numbers you are comfortable with. You could offer free services to local charities, as that helps to build your portfolio and pro bono work is a positive way to get your name out there. Be specific about what you're offering to do, though. Don't want to get caught up spending hours on them when you have paying customers too. You could consider partnering with parallel businesses, such as SEO firms, copywriters, publishers, printers, etc. Anyone who might have clients who need adverts. Good luck!! |
