Had my appt yesterday

Postby PajamaLady » Sat Sep 25, 2004 5:53 pm

Well doc is changing my meds around cuz just the depakote isnt working. I went from 2000mg to 1000mg of the dep, he added 5 mg of zyprexa and 25 mg for 10 days to 50mg of Lamictal. He's trying to cover both ends of my moods. I can slip into a deep depression and I have still have the manic tendencies, especially dealing with ppl. My husband also says he hasnt seen any difference, if anything Ive become more irrational.

I about yelled at another patient yesterday in the waiting room cuz it was 5 min after his appt time and an emergency patient went in ahead of him so he ranted on about it. I really couldnt see what the point was and it rubbed me wrong. The office I go to is great! There are 3 in the practice..they take walk ins after 4pm 4 days a week, they squeeze in emergency patients and one of them is always available. And you have to admit waiting an extra 10-15 min for appt isnt going to kill you since a reg physicians office wait is much longer.

I just wanted to tell him to shut up!! (not so nicely of course) I got the shakes and the swelling inside me like I was going to burst. But I behaved and kept my mouth shut. Normally I wouldnt. Even in my most irrational moods 15 mins wouldnt have bothered me. I had to wait yesterday too, geeesh......Just had to get that off my chest.

Anyway I hope I dont have munchie problems with the Lamictal like I hear so much about. If I do hopefully I can resist. If he keeps me on depakote and the others...my script cost will be 90.00$ a month. Thank god for ins. I have another sppt with a pain doc next month and I dont know what Ill be getting from him.

Hope you are all well!

Lamectal works great, but watch out for rash and swelling report immediatley since rash is actually internal,

Depakote works well on few

zyprexa is wonderful , but the weight gain is aweful.

Have you tried lithium, with topamax to control weight gain yet???

Best of luck,

I seem to have the munchie syndrome under control with the zyprexa but the scale is telling me a gained a few pounds :x I will have to counter act it with extra activity and hopefully keep it at bay. I already have a weight problem grrrrr( I tend to want to munch more on the weekends when the kids are home, they can rattle my cage at times)

The Depakote has given me tremors which can be bothersome at times, especially doing things that need a controlled hand. I can deal with it at the moment.

I finally just started the Lamictal yesterday really. Havent been able to get to the pharmacy until then. I couldnt believe how much that script costs originally...100 pills $367.97.....I paid 60. That is awful!

I just started treatment about a month ago so Im still a guinea pig so to speak lol. Good thing is that yesterday is the best Ive felt in quite a long while. My major hurdle is still being out and about among ppl, one step at a time with that.

Hope all is well

One thing on those meds, is trial and error and with the cost , even with insurance see if you can get samples, as my lamectal caused the rash and swelling after two doses. shooo, good thing no out of pocket.

The depakote for me gave me a rubber feeling, but we are all different.

The zyprexa again, was wonderful, but caused carb cravings, and lowered my metabolism, as many here can tell you, I gained an so fast even with exercise. But the topamax helps the bipolar , only two side affects and combats the weight gain, i.e. if you are on lithium etc. but can't be taken with another anti seizure(convulsive) like depakote.

I will definately mention the topamax this friday when I go in. Cuz guess what? Ive gained 5 lbs so far and Ive been very active this past week.
The Lamictal didnt give me a rash, as of yet. Im still on the low dose. I feel pretty good and wonder maybe he will just have me stay at 1 tab a day. Im suppose to start the same day as my appt. Of course though I have to see his associate.
I actually went shopping thursday and was nice and when I went out with my husband Friday I felt socialable. My new test dealing with my step father this week....I cant stand him.

Zyrexa is an antipychotic, so he won't give you two antiseisure, the lemictal and the topamax, but you might ask him.

if the lemictal is working and the zyprexa is causing unwanted weight gain, you could ask him to DC it and see how you feel. just a suggestion.

one layer at a time.

Lemictal, nurse specialist's resistance to it

Dear Gang, at least your medical specialists are listening to you. My nurse specialist (one step short of a psychiatrist) isn't listening to me, much. I want her to put me on Lemictal because it's weight neutral (doesn't make you gain weight). She replies that I'm doing so well on depakote that she wants to leave me on it. Can't get her to change her mind. So I started reading everything online I could abut lemictal. I haven't found anything factual yet. I'm going to try WebMD soon. I hope you find the info your looking for.

the one thing I found about lemictal for me, is the first day I took it I broke out in a bad rash on my neck and shoulders and my eyes swelled shut. So my doctor took me off IMEDIATELY, as this rash is from the inside out.

It is rare, but I am very medication sensitive.

I hope this helps alittle.

wlj,

Welcome, I haven't tried lithium yet, don't really plan to though, the depakote I was on for two weeks, but they cocktailed it with serazone , I had to quit them both, as I didn't know what was making me a frozen zombie on the couch. I felt so manic I couldn't move, honestly. I just sat there and thought and twidled my hair.

A friend of mine swears by the depakote , tho they do adjust her dosages now and then.

Again welcome. :)
