It didn't make me manic, but I got akathesia. My Pdoc rx'd me Cogentin and it immediately made the akathesia go away.
Abilify and Lithium pulled me out of the worst psychotic, mixed episode I've ever had.

I currently take Abilify. It doesn't make me manic. It's different for each person. I also take a mood stabilizer so it controls the mania.

It helped me a little but I've just started a low dose. Before ability I couldn't listen to music of any sort because my brain was so scattered and manic. I can now listen to music again after abilify.

Abilify caused my penis to ejaculate once. I reeled away from the notion of it happening twice. Later, I keggeled two out and somewhere in this timeline I had nocturnal coitus with a xenomorph cosplaying an Amari.

Abilify made me pace incessantly which made it extremely hard to sleep. Still, it's hard to tell whether the pacing was due to mania or medication-induced akathisia. Treated with abilify it took me several months to really recover enough to get a job etc, treated with lithium I recovered in just a few weeks. I also found abilify very blunting at the higher doses. Not the drug for me, I know a lot of people love it though.

I've been on Abilify for like 2 years and in my experience it's helped turn my big mood swings into little ones. That means it's helped me with both manic and depressive episodes.
Then again, it's the only bipolar med I've been on in my life so not a lot of experience to compare it to. I've only ever been on antidepressants which definitely made my mania worse. So maybe I could be on a different one that would make my brain function even better, but who knows.
