the best movie/tv representations of ASD

Postby ProudAutie » Mon Dec 11, 2017 3:56 pm

what tv shows or movies does everyone think are the best at representing ASD?

i really love the movie; after thomas, which is a true story and explores severe classic autism without intellectual disability, and the black balloon which explores profound autism with intellectual disability.
as someone at that half of the spectrum [albeit with mild intellectual disability] i found they really researched what its like and it was not your average awful rainman affair where the autist is also a savant-something shown in so many tv shows as being part of autism when its actually very rare.

i also like the tv show- the good doctor, which is about a high functioning autistic surgeon,it explores topics like sensory overload and stimming and language and understanding of concepts issues [such as death] except yet again the surgeon is a savant. :|

whats your favourite? and indeed whats your worst?
main dx; moderate & lf classic autism, mild intellectual disability, severe epilepsy, spinal nerve damage.
MH dx; bipolar,[paranoid] pyschosis NOS,panic disorder,extreme anxiety.
behavior/MH meds: abilify,haloperidol,diazepam,carbemazepine,sertraline.

One movie that really touched my heart personally, was "Snow Cake." I really related to Sigourney Weaver's character, and even her daughter a little bit (during my early 20's I was very childlike.)

The way the autistic woman struggled with being around other people (and other people just couldn't understand her!) was a great representation of the challenges I've had to face.

Oh wow, it's time to binge watch some movies!

Here's my suggestion: "Mozart and the Whale"
PTSD,
BiPolar I,
Avoidant Personality Disorder,
Major Depression, anxiety/Social Phobia/panic attacks/flashbacks,
Agoraphobic Tendencies,
Autism

Geodon 80mg, 2x/day
Klonopin 1mg, 3x/day
Mirtazapine 30mg at night for sleep (alternate with trazadone 150mg to avoid tolerance)
Ritalin 20mg, 2x/day

Napolean Dynamite in Napolean Dynamite? I think you could make a case for Asperger's.
