Diagnosed with ADHD at 44.

Postby KJay » Tue Apr 24, 2018 1:13 pm

I've recently been diagnosed and prescribed Adderall XR 30mg. First dose...6 hours of calm and clarity like I've never known, then 30 hrs of terrible headaches, ears ringing, sleeplessness, muscle cramps and jaw pain.
Dr. dropped the dose to 10mg IR. No calm or clarity this time. Only the same negative side effects.
Has anyone had this experience? Are there other meds that may work for me?

Mix IT with omega3 fatty acids.

Adderall made me very angry and nervous. My dr. Switched me to Vyvanse and it is so much better. Like 90% better.

both Adderall and Vyvanse made me feel better but wow did I have the urge to masturbate or have sex for long periods of time. My GF at the time was definitely wore out. We are both hyper-sexual most likely due to abuse, but the duration that I would want to go was out of this world. Hours and hours...

Finding the right type of median dosage for a newly diagnosed ADHD patient is a process, sometimes a long process. It's complicated. Usually the diagnosing doctor will start with one med at a minimal dose and then depending on how the patient is doing on that, it can be increased until a good result is reached. If that medication has too many side effects or doesn't help at all with the patient, the doctor might switch to another med at a minimal dose. And etc. Starting with 30mg. of Adderall doesn't sound right. Each patient reacts differently to these medications, so don't think that if a certain dose of a specific med works for them, it will work for you. Try to be patient with this process. Seeing a psychiatrist might be better, if you are seeing another type of doctor.
