Asperger's syndrome description
In general, Asperger's syndrome (AS) is a developmental disorder at the high-functioning end of the autistic spectrum disorders. Although the disorder was identified in 1944 by Hans Asperger, it did not receive widespread attention until the 1990s. Consequently, many adults with the disorder remain undiagnosed.

People with the syndrome can be characterised by their impairments in social situations as well as having stereotyped patterns of behaviour and obsessional interests. Many people with the syndrome also have average intelligence (or above), but lack social and communication skills.

Some traits that are typical of AS (such as attention to detail and focused interests) can increase chances of academic and professional career success. Many people with AS seem to be fascinated with technology, but scientific careers are by no means the only areas where people with AS excel. Indeed, many respected historical figures had symptoms of AS, including WB Yeats, Albert Einstein, Isaac Newton, Jacques Chirac, John F Kennedy, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Marie Curie, and Thomas Jefferson.
