Sex reassignment surgery

Should it be covered by the government due to the fact that transgender people feel dysphoria and many kill themselves?

I know, it's a stupid question isn't it. But this is a debate I'm having elsewhere on the internet.

Very antisocial of you. You're living up to your reputation.

In the UK, it is possible to get gender re-assignment on the NHS, if you can provide a suitable body of proof to its legitimacy.
I'm not arguing; I'm explaining why I'm right.

Do you think it's something that should be covered though? Or do you think people should have to pay out of pocket? It's not a necessary procedure.

Depends on what you call necessary. There are people who wait for Dunkin Donuts to open and then eat twelve with a diet coke and end up getting anti-glutton surgery for free, as it's a psychological problem causing distress.

I'd imagine that having no choice over your gender and it being "wrong" would give more reason than that.

No, no it shouldn’t be covered. You want the surgery I’m all for it but not with my tax money.

Well my nose needs straightening up because my sunglasses won't sit straight on it.

Would you pay for that in your taxes please?
