how can we be sure if we care about something or not?

often times people dismiss things they care about, because it's easier to not care.

do we care because we actually, genuinely care?
do we care because we think we should?
or do we not care, through and through?

for the record, "I Do care about each and every one of you. you guys have transformed me from a little pussy to a big girl, just by living vicariously through your words on this forum. I feel like i can take on the world now!!!" - I wonder which of us has this inner voice?

am I making myself clear?

I know we all care about some stuff, but where do u draw the line

how do we differentiate caring from thinking we should care?

my upbringing was very good and prosocial, thanks to my parents.

i find that i care about things because of how i was raised, but when i search deeper, or for example when push comes to shove and i have to make a decision about something like whether or not i should litter, i don't end up caring..

i know it sounds like a petty example but i think twice before littering, but never end up changing my mind

you don't need to question if you care about every little thing. that's neurosis. it's only something you should do if something is causing you trouble. is your life being disrupted by tossing your trash in the bin? no? then keep on throwing it away.

I care. I must do or else I wouldn't get out of my pit everyday and go out to earn a living.

I care enough to behave in such a fashion so I can keep my job as well.

And I care enough for my daughter that I want her to have a better start than I had.

I didn't used to care (or at least I thought I didn't) and that's when I had nothing but caring about things gives me the strength to fight for the future.

I'm only an insignificant speckle but I've made massive strides.

You've heard the saying 'Actions speak louder than words', right? That's the difference.

It's easy to sit on your ass and say I care about this or I care about that, but if you aren't doing jack shlt about it, then you may as well be sitting there twiddling your thumbs instead. Caring means nothing without action.

The problem with actions though is they can be deceptive, so then you have to look at motive - why you took those actions. Motive often distinguishes between sincerity and disingenuousness. If the motive was purely selfish, then you know that the only thing you cared about was you.

my upbringing was very good and prosocial, thanks to my parents.

i find that i care about things because of how i was raised, but when i search deeper, or for example when push comes to shove and i have to make a decision about something like whether or not i should litter, i don't end up caring..

Your littering stems more from laziness than lack of care. If everybody littered imagine how ugly and disgusting and filthy the world would be.

I tend not to litter because I care about the environment. We all live on this planet and I believe that we all should play our part in keeping it clean. I don't know about you, but I don't particularly care to live in a rubbish dump.

Knowing you care and thinking you care is the difference between doing what you know you should do for your benefit and the benefit of others and doing things purely for your own selfish reasons, or doing nothing at all.
