Life Goals

Do you have any and are you pursuing them? Or are you simply living in the present for pleasure and have no desire to improve your life?
You come at the king, you best not miss.

I have goals but they feel so far away. And they really are, but i know i'm only ~30% dead so it's not like i won't get there. In the mean time i am being pretty impulsive with the few money i have and feel like i am in a state of limbo in regards to how far i can push into my intended field.

What's keeping me moving along nicely is i guess fantasy and knowing i'll have more freedom as i age and go down the path i see for myself.

And in the mean time i can read, reflect, come here (more often now only when stoned), and live a simple life with simple pleasures. Like fifty-three cent Starbucks large refills.

Just the possibility of things to get better, of all shapes and sizes.

I could make a list but it wouldn't do you any help.

There have been odd occasions where I've thought about starting my own business one day and being my own boss, but that's more a fantasy than an actual goal. I've had a few good business ideas come to mind over the years, but even if I had the financial resources to get things started, I'd lack the motivation to keep them going.

I don't have any actual life goals. I lose interest in things too quickly for that and I'm so focused on the here and now that I rarely think far enough ahead to form any.

I've never had a plan; I find the whole concept unobtainable.

I do have drivers though, and they tend to help me achieve. I will envision something I want and then usually I'll immediately start doing stuff towards that goal or I'll leave it and nothing will happen.

Unless it really grabs my attention I will probably get bored with it. I'm usually better with things where the end goal is the same as the process for getting there.

For example: if I wanted to write a book then that would be OK because writing is what I want to do and I'm doing it from the start.

However, if I want to save money to buy a boat then I won't achieve that, because I want a boat; I don't want to save money. I'll have good intentions when the initial idea is there but by tomorrow I'll get bored and be thinking of something else.

It has to be something that is consistently stimulating.
I'm not arguing, I'm explaining why I'm right.

I'm not being self-defeating. I'm talking about how I quickly lose interest in things, therefore lack the motivation to keep going on that particular path. I can't seem to help that. The moment I lose interest I'm off looking for something else to stimulate my mind.

It can be frustrating because it makes it hard for me to achieve anything long-term. In fact, so far it's been impossible for me to achieve anything long-term. I'm only good at achieving short-term goals.

Both what JOMP and Reaper are saying sound to me, a non, like things you can train yourself to do eventually? Is this the curse of ASPD or do you not understand the process yet? Is there even a way to prove this other than your word? I saw something about ASPD brain scans and that they show that pw ASPD’s reward system biologically works differently but besides “the brainscan guy” it’s not like most people here have taken one (?) so how would you know by self-reflecting?

Anyway since I’m here, I have plenty of life goals only some of which I’ll maybe be able to fulfill. One I don’t have and keep getting $#%^ about is not wanting a child, or at least definitely not to cause, make and carry it. If I’m more stable in the future I’d love to be a foster family.

What process are you referring to?

Is there even a way to prove this other than your word?

Prove what?

Actual experience.

Most things I talk about here to do with my behavior are based on experience. I don't need a brain scan to tell me I'm very short-term reward driven. I can't say if it's biological or not, but it's been a life-long issue, so who knows.
