NAMI back to school "how to get your child on drugs"

Postby Copy_Cat » Thu Sep 03, 2015 4:45 am

While knowing your rights can help ensure that your child is treated fairly by his or her school, occasionally additional resources are needed to help your child succeed. IDEA includes more than 13 categories of disability, including mental health conditions, which determine whether your child can receive special education services. However, just because a child has learning and attention issues doesn’t mean that he or she is eligible for services. In order to receive education services, the student must be evaluated...

"evaluated" = get one of psychiatry's forever labels.

"additional resources" and "services"

A quick glance at NAMI’s own funding reports shows the group is backed by millions of dollars in pharmaceutical industry money. http://namiexposed.com/?page_id=73

Is it any surprise then that NAMI advocates the psychiatric labeling of kids ?

Large corporations often use front groups to advocate for political positions that benefit themselves as well as create an illusion of grassroots support.

NAMI claims it is “the nation’s voice on mental illness” and “a uniquely credible voice.”

But before you heed their recommendations, which always lead to psychotropic drugs for you or a family member, consider who is behind NAMI.

And I have met many many people who were drugged by psychiatry as kids and none of them had anything nice to say.

Not a single one.

And if psychiatry is so great for kids why are so many schools failing and getting worse ?

We didn't do child drugging a generation ago.

I think evaluation of a child with ADHD or learning disabilities is okay, but deciding to just drug them without considering other options isn't going to help. Evaluation should be for accommodations, not for normalizing a neurodivergent child (which won't happen, even if people try).

My cousin has ADHD, and used to do poorly in school and get into trouble. You know what worked? Being given more consistent rules at home and going into a different school where teachers were able to accommodate him. What didn't work? Giving him meds.

I think that drugging children is a symptom of a larger problem rather than a cause. I think it is being done because with the number of students in classrooms of public schools today, teachers are unable to accommodate students who are struggling.

But NAMI helps pharma target these children ,

In 2004, NAMI opposed the placement of "black box" warnings on antidepressants determined to cause suicide in under-18 year olds, and in 2006 opposed black box warnings on ADHD drugs causing heart attack, stroke and sudden death in children in 2006. Despite overwhelming evidence of serious adverse cardiac events and sudden deaths caused by ADHD drugs, in 2006 NAMI took the position that the “black box” warning on ADHD drugs was “premature.”

All I know is the sooner people know NAMI is just an extension of the pharmaceutical companies marketing departments the better.

They opposed black box warnings on drugs about dangerous side effects. Disgusting. They don't actually care about people labeled with mental illnesses. Because how could they if they want to censor information about medication, keeping people from making informed choices?

I won't deny that NAMI is a big contributor to the problem with drugging children.

I think that not only should people know that NAMI is for the interests of pharmaceutical companies at the expense of the interests "mentally ill" people, but they should also know that NAMI perpetuates stigma rather than reducing it.

I have learned to be skeptical when I see the word "grassroots". I have also seen that term used with other organizations that silence the voices of disabled people like Autism Speaks.

Every year they do a campaign to help get more kids on drugs for their pharma paymasters.

But before you heed their recommendations, which always lead to psychotropic drugs for you or a family member, remember who is behind NAMI.

In the case of Lilly, at least, "funding" takes more than one form. Jerry Radke, a Lilly executive, is "on loan" to NAMI, working out of the organization's headquarters. Flynn explains the cozy-seeming arrangement by saying, "[Lilly] pays his salary, but he does not report to them, and he is not involved in meetings we have with [them]." She characterizes Radke's role at NAMI as "strategic planning." http://www.motherjones.com/politics/1999/11/prozacorg

I honestly believe childhood drugging is a conspiracy to destroy the country from within. What sane person inflicts brain damage onto a nation's future? This is sick, it needs to stop.
