I'm ALWAYS angry nowadays...

Postby StefyMarie » Wed Jul 22, 2020 2:20 am

Has anyone else with bipolar disorder had problems controlling their anger? What did you do? Any suggestions? I've tried breathing exercises, they don't work for me so any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!! Ty in advance! :D

I'm an abuser and want help

Postby StefyMarie » Wed Jul 22, 2020 2:38 am

I abuse my bf and feel HORRIBLE for it!!!! Any advise on controlling my angry outbursts!?!?! I HATE being mean and calling him names and putting him down, I feel like such a bully and a straight up asshole!!!! I seriously want to learn to be more calm during arguments and things I can do to calm down and avoid getting too heated and saying awful things and/or slapping him.... ANY advice would be nice! We love each other, he has asked me to get help but with covid there are no meetings rn!

Hello and welcome! Just a note that the two posts overlapped enough to merge- one forum per topic, please... also moved from DV (which is more for the receiving end) to Anger Management with a stop in Bipolar, to leave a link in that forum leading to this thread, so that people in Bipolar will also see it.

Tell someone you love them today, for Life is short. But scream it at them in Klingon, for Life is also terrifying and confusing.

We do not delete posts.
Let it go.

what personally helps me, when I'm manic and going through anger, is thinking about nature. Is there a scene in nature, or an animal in nature, that you like? I think of birds eating seeds in a farm field, or foxes playing in the snow. These help me, but not everyone. Hopefully they help you

Hi StefyMarie, There’s a pinned thread in anger mgmt about getting rid of anger & reducing stress. It’s currently up to 4 pages of what others here have found helpful. I’ve also found a free app helpful: AIMS for anger mgmt. AIMS stands for anger & irritability management skills. I don’t have a bipolar diagnosis though & I’m not sure how bipolar anger differs from other anger. Good luck.
