Tips to get rid of anger and reduce stress.

Postby Tyler » Thu Mar 12, 2015 1:23 am

This thread is for others to give their tips on getting rid of anger and reducing stress.

I actually have a poster on my wall that the psych ward gave me that gives you tips on how to do it. Let me give you some of what they say and some of my own personal tips.

Progressive Muscle Relaxation

1. Begin with your facial muscles: Frown for five to ten seconds.
2. Work other facial muscles by tensing them for five to ten seconds and then relaxing them
3. Move onto your jaw and then other muscle groups.

Deep breathing

1. Relax your arms and your shoulders.
2. Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and exhale. Repeat
3. Concentrate on your breathing - put aside all your stressful thoughts

Visualization

1. Sit or lie down in a comfortable position
2. Imagine a pleasant, peaceful scene, such as a lush forest or a sandy beach, picture yourself in that setting
3. Focus on the scene for a set amount of time, then gradually return to your other activities.

Other tips

1. Keep a journal (worked wonders for me)
2. Learn to accept what you cannot change.
3. Cope with stress through humor
4. Take care of yourself by eating healthy, getting plenty of rest, and exercise.

That's word for word what the poster says. Now, my personal tips.

1. find that relaxtion food or drink (no alcohol). Mine's Gold Peak Raspberry tea.
2. Find that piece of music that relaxes you. Mine is pretty much any classical music piece.
3. Quotes. Find them and remember them. Happy quotes.

There are a lot of ways you can cope with stress and help with these sort of things. Trying Googling ways to cope.

Hello,

Thank you very much for these useful tips. I am very short tempered and do follow the deep breathing technique often. I must say, it is effective and does help me reduce my temper a lot.

Also, I would like to add regular Meditation, Meditation does effect our brain nerves a lot and make us calm and stress free. This process take some time to shoe it's effects but it's worth your time. :)

Regards,

Thank you for the tips.

What I've found works best for me is daily exercise whether it be doing cardio or lifting weights. Exerting that excess energy in the morning feels great and helps me relax through the day and not let the little things get to me.

I like to take deep breaths. Count to three as you inhale and then count to three as you exhale. Think about nothing but the breaths you take.

Doing yoga asanas is one of the best methods to reduce anger and stress. 10-15 minutes of regular yoga asanas will help remove the restlessness in your body.

A good workout and a way to get out anger in you is to use a punching bag. Don't dwell on what you are angry at, and center your focus on just punching a bag. You will wear yourself out and feel very calm safely releasing the anger. This works for me. Give it a try if you are looking to workout and haven't found something you wanna stick with. Working out is ESSENTIAL along with what the others have said. Anger is you mind is often related to stress (we all know that!) Safely releasing that anger working out, especially with a punching bag is healthy. Think Rhonda Rhousey! She gets out her anger and her workout training.

Working out will do wonders for your endorphins. I know it is hard to get out there and start working out. If I can take SeEroquel, Lamictal, Zoloft, Clonidine, and 30mg of Valium a day and muster up the energy to give it my best, you can do it too! It's hard as hell at first, but take a step at a time. Just do some push-ups for a week or jog in place. Finally hit up a gym (most will give you a free pass to try). It's really hard, especially with meds causing you to float in the clouds and get lethargic and tired, but you can still mentally overcome the meds if you really want it. It's a hard task, I know from being loaded on a psychiatric cocktail that wants me to sleep 20 hours a day... But try it. Hell, punching a pillow will release some anger stress.

Very useful tips. Have to apply them now.
I wanted to add a few tips like eat when you feel angry, or just walk away when you feel angry with someone. Otherwise, discussions will follow and you might lose someone close.
Reducing stress by a massage is the best solution for me.

Best, Ben
