Has anyone done anything that has improved there anxiety and help them get out the house? I've been stuck for so long is there anything that will help?

Honestly, I wish I knew. I was housebound for two years in my late teens, but eventually came out of it. Was fine for a very long time, and now at 23 it's happening again. It's just horrible. Sorry this isn't helpful. Just wanted you to know there's someone else in the same predicament. I want to say medication could help, but I don't take my own advice because I hate medication and won't use it.

For me, Lexapro and Klonopin under the care of an excellent psychiatrist. I have several anxiety disorders, including agoraphobia. I also am in therapy. When I go out, I usually don't go out alone--my partner goes with me.

Meds have made the biggest positive impact for me.

I had severe agoraphobia and could NOT leave the house without getting physically sick (and sometimes I couldn't even leave my bed). I started seeing a really great CBT therapist who had worked a lot with anxiety/OCD/agoraphobia. With her, I got a LOT better! I was terrified of taking medication for a long, long time, and I was generally pretty functional, but still plagued with lots of anxiety and panic even though I could usually leave my house. After about two years of therapy, I was able to get to the point where I could start medication and I've been doing really well -- I'm totally functional! I definitely recommend CBT and, if you feel comfortable, asking about medication. In my experience, medication was particularly effective after I had already done plenty of therapy, because the meds lowered my anxiety enough that I could actually work on the CBT exercises I was doing with my therapist :)
