To what extent can we recover???

I hear so much about people who learn how to live with a mental illness but are there those out there who have completely recovered and lived normal lives again? I ask this because I think that I have to make myself believe it before it can become a possibility. Right now, I believe that I'll only be able to make some improvements here or there but, overall, I will always be this way and ...

all i can be is everyone's perception of me.
i'm a million different people at once while never changing, because there're a million different people looking at me; all of which who have different points of view.
imagine i'm here talking to two different people. one person is thinking, "i'm intrigued." the other is thinking, "i'm scared." i become two different people.same equation, just turn the two into a million. i'm a million different people. ...

Helping a family member get help. Where do we start?

We have a family member who for a few years now is breaking all ties with family. She becomes too angry for anyone to talk to. She thinks that people are watching her and that everyone is against her. She will not go visit a doctor and has no income. We don't know where or to whom we should talk to first. She wants to talk to a lawyer of all people to tell her ...

What could this be??

Ok, before I start off, I have to say that I'm really ashamed of this and I've never even told it to my therapist.

Ever since my depression/Panic Disorder started, my imagination has been totally over-active. I remember once, I was in my car and I looked up at a tree and I all of a sudden pictured my Grandpa hanging from a noose from the tree. It was so scary because I love my ...

What do you tell your family??

It seems that I haven't really been able to communicate what I'm going through with my parents. It's like I have to tell them I am gay or something. There seems to be this very awkward feeling surrounding my illness that derives either from simple unease with personal matters or from the stigma that mental illness so often provokes. My parents and I have never been very close at all and it is very strange ...

I was just wondering what ya'll do for a living? I know there are a lot of people who go about their lives living with depression and anxiety and accomplish a lot! You people deserve an incredible amount of respect!! You show a lot of courage. People tend to think those that are mentally ill can't hold down a job or do anythign else worthy of praise. At a meeting of the New Clinical Drug Evaluation Unit sponsored by the National Institute of Mental Health, Dr. Arif Khan raised serious concerns about the apparent link to suicide of the new psychotropic drugs: "'We have to ask if medication is the only way' to approach the prevention of suicide?"

Dr. Kahn analyzed the FDA data on suicide rates for more than 71,604 patients who were treated ...

Just an observation....

You know, after reading most of these posts I've really come to realize how incredibly intelligent most people with depression and anxiety and other illnesses are. I considerable myself to be a fairly intelligent person and I've really noticed the writing skills, vocabulary, and eloquence with which most of you write. I am very impressed. But aside from that it raises an interesting question. Are people who are more intelligent and thoughtful more likely to ...
