Is this considered trich?

Postby je1117 » Sat Feb 27, 2010 7:46 pm

I'm wondering if what I do is considered trich or possibly just OCD.. I'm a 23 year old male and have been pulling a few years ago in the middle of my college education. The reason I'm confused is because all the stories I have heard involve people pulling out ALL hair from their eyebrows or eyelashes, or getting bald spots on their scalp.

What I do is pull gently at areas of my scalp and remove hair that is easily tugged out. Same with my eyebrows and eyelashes. I never yank or pull forceably, and it never leaves any noticeable spots. I look every time I pull and see if I've pulled out anything and if i stop getting any hair, I stop. As I type this it sounds more and more like compulsion to me, but I was looking for some other opinions. Thanks.

Hey,

I'm glad that you have mentioned OCD and Trich in the same sentence here, because I actually believe that they are fundamentaly the same thing. If it's OCD that you have, however, then there would most likely be other symptoms too. So, what else is 'unusual' in your life that could be OCD related? You must also realise that if you went to a doctor, he/she'd probably diagnose you with OCD. Trich. isn't that commonly known and using it as a diagnosis isn't very productive (that's my own opinion though)

As far as anything else unusual.. I honestly can't think of anything else. I think I have quirks and routines, but none truly out of control. For example, little things like formatting of text and notes has to be perfect and the volume on my radio has to be an even number. There is nothing else unusual that comes to mind..

In that case, you should look up obsessive compulsive personality disorder (OCPD). Maybe you will find relation to that... ...?
