phones

I know this forum doesn't get much traffic but the few that do might understand this on some level....

why are people so obsessed with the phone! why can't they just use email? my husband says it is because the phone gets you instant awnsers. well, I have im too. And with me you are much more likely to get an awnser fast with email. With a phone you might have to wait weeks if you ever get a call. Email is soooo much easier. you can spell check, grammer check, fact check. Plus you can send images and keep an exact copy of everything that was said. you can't do that with a phone. Phones are so last century, why do we still even use them? Why do some people insist on using them? why do I even still have a phone? it's not like I use it.....

tash,

I believe that people like phones because they like talking to each other and - with a [cellular] phone - you are never truly alone in this world. If you aren't up to having a conversation, you can also send a text message using your phone. In both cases, it's a pseudo form of socialising.

I don't mind texting much. I don't care for how long it takes to type without a real keyboard. but otherwise it is just like imming.

with an internet connection you aren't alone either.

I just hate it when someone emails or texts you and says "call me". I am now up to three calls I am suppost to make. trying to compleatly avoid one, get my husband to do another, and don't know about the third (which is the one that scares me the most).......

you can also tell more about how the person is feeling through their voice. i'm sorry but :( :D and etc are not real emotion.

also, let's say an emergency comes up with a close friend or relative and you're out grocery shopping. i highly doubt you push the cart around with your lap top propped on it.

if they are calling me that is fine. and I don't have one but my husband has a blackberry and gets all his business email through it. He says it is awesome for work because they can send out group emails and everyone can get it right away (they all have blackberrys) instead of doing phone trees and double checking and calling back etc.

emotions aren't that easy online, but facts are and facts matter more. especilly with buisness. facts are much easier when you can double check them and have a copy to go back to instead of relying on memory.

Oi, if a person sends you a 'call me' message, you ignore them. That's what I always do. Think about it: It's grossly unfair to you. You are your own person, my dear, and novody controls how you live your life. Be more independent and assertive and don't take this crap from people. They're just displaying the fact that they think they can control you - Don't let them.

i wasn't trying to encourage you to use or own a cell phone. i personally hate mine. i usually just txt msg. when you are typing a msg you can think more about what you are saying. i can totally understand what you mean about facts. however, i was just simply trying to imply that they have been around for quite sometime now and they don't seem to be going away anytime soon. i can remember all to well when someone had to call me at home on a land line, write me, or just see me in person (the one i prefer out of most of all), but times have changed. seemingly to make communication easier, and it has def made communication faster. i wasn't trying to encourage you to use your phone against your own beliefs or whatever i was just trying to let you know why ppl have them and why they possibly aren't such a bad thing.

mostly I am just freaked out by an email I got a few days ago that said "call me". We had been emailing. Then I get this out of the blue. I have just ignored it so far since I am terrified of calling and people get mad when you email them after they say "call me". But if she had just written then she would have gotten a response by now. she doesn't have to get rid of her phone, just keep using the email she was useing.

I don't even have a land line any more since the only people that called were telemarketers. I prefer just keeping my cell around all the time so I can awnser it and never have to worry about calling people back like if you are out and you have a land line. :)

That's good tash, but you should try to turn your phone off every once in a while too. I know one girl once who would turn her phone off for days on end just because she wanted some peace. Seriously though, if a person sent me a 'call me' text message or email, I'd probably be regarding them as an ex friend. I don't associate with that type of ignorance.

she is not a friend. I don't even know her irl. she emailed me about a business thing, but I am not working right now.

I don't get many calls. My dr called yesterday to confirm ins info. My husband called last weekend while he was out to see if I wanted something to eat. a friend called about a week and a half ago. she calls every couple of weeks. and she knows if she gets voice mail she can leave a msg but she needs to call back if she wants to talk. If I don't know the number I might not awnser depending on my mood. But like I said I don't get many calls. (probably because I don't make any)
