Rubber band

Postby LasersEX » Wed Jan 16, 2013 3:44 am

I'm not saying this will work for everyone, but recently I've started snapping a rubber band on my wrist every time I think about porn.

The rubber band fits comfortably around my wrist and two or more small, but painful snaps quickly gets me off the subject. So, far it's stopped me from relapsing about two times. I'm cautious to avoid bruising myself and making sure that I only punish thoughts of porn not sexual thoughts. I'm trying to retrain my brain to focus on real people and ideas not porn.

Wish me luck?

EDIT — I should note that using this method has kept me from viewing porn for an entire week. I'm still tempted, but the snapping pulls me out my craving long enough to remember why I'm quitting porn. I'll wear this rubber band my whole life if I have to :|

Hi, LasersEX. What you did sounds to be such an creative and interesting way to stay away from porn. I might consider it as a type of punishment. The pain just decreased the possibility of thinking about porn again gradually, just like how the addicted power of porn increased the possibility of thinking about them in the past gradually.

I never really thought about using this kind of method. Maybe I am taking my addiction too seriously that I don't trust this small methods. I always think that I need to have a lifestyle change to get rid of porn. Now viewing your success, I think I could try this!

Let me know how it works!

There are other techniques that don't require the rubber band. I think one suggests that you shout "stop" every time you have an unwanted thought. That would be hard to do in public, but there should be other methods.

I like the rubbe rband idea. You are doing whatever works for you. I count backwards and it helps me. I may try the rubber band method and any others to keep switching techniques so there isn't a plateau
