Early signs of schizophrenia?

Postby shyboy3 » Mon Dec 28, 2009 1:17 am

First, my psych history:

Adult ADD
Clinical Depression
Social Anxiety
Bipolar (latest diagnosis)

The reason I fear schizophrenia is that I often have paranoid feelings that people are talking negatively about me behind my back. In general, I am very rarely trusting of anyone and always have the thought in my mind that the person I am dealing with doesn't like me and is working against me.

Feel free to ask anymore questions.

You might very well not have schizophrenia, but there are no professionals here to tell you whether you do or not. You should be very aware of the fact that paranoid thoughts are a part of many mental disorders however, and even I (who has depression and OCD) become extraordinarily paranoid from time to time. On face value (i.e. from what you've written), I'd say that you do'nt have it, but you must go to your doctor if you suspect otherwise.

To be honest the thoughts that your having could just be related to your social phobia. I have social phobia and I get those thoughts.

Perhaps the two are related. Good point.

Sounds also like paranoid personality disorder. Do you hear voices of any kind or see things that aren't there? Also, are people following you, or are you afraid they are?
Rx: Seroquel 600mg (200mg t.i.d. h.s.), Lexapro 40mg (20mg b.i.d. a.m.)

Its at the bottom end of the spectrum when it cums to schtizophranis (paranoia) it can snowball from 1 thing to another once you start thinking people are on your case. dnt worry though your still in control and its really paranoia not schitzophrania so theres a good chance it will pass once you start to normalise a little. just concerntrate on living like a normal person m8 u will soon be over it.

Hi.....I too have bipolar (type 2) depression and a few others
specifically "schizotypal personality disorder" which some in the medical community think is a mild form of schizophrenia.
Schizotypal does have symptoms of being "suspicious" of others (people tell me I'm paranoid but I don't like that word) thinking everyone is against me, disliking me. I've looked up the explanations/info on schizotypal PD so it does come under the schizophrenia spectrum. :|
