can schizophrenia kill you eventually? I don't mean suicide though sometimes i feel like im dying .... i feel death would be a mercy this disease is worse than any physical illness that a person could have i know this because iv had severe health problems in the past and nothing is as bad as this there is NEVER any relief from this even whilst asleep im haunted when i wake up i never feel rested but as if some had beaten me up

Yeah schizophrenia can kill you eventually. Depends on how you die though. You can suffer a heart attack from the medication pushing your heart too hard, you can do something that gets you killed because of your psychosis, or you get too fat and die of health complications.

You can do a few things to avoid this. You say you never get any relief from this probably means you're not on the right medication. I know I go nuts on certain meds and I do fine on others. They all "work" the same though on your psychosis, but have different side effects. I'm surprised you say you never feel rested because these meds make people sleep 12+ hours a day and most of us are more rested than we'd like to be. Once again, its probably not a good medication that you are on now. I think you are experiencing energy drain from your medication. Some of them makes people go bat crazy because they are over activating. For example, if you're taking abilify, you can experience akathisia and this will make you pace around like mad.

All I can say is, if this doesn't get any better after a while, try a different med.

I don't want to sound like an a** but if you die of a heart attack, or because you're too fat, because of medications I wouldn't say that's schizophrenia killing you.

well it would mean schizophrenia CAUSED you to die.

sadly i don't respond well to meds iv tried several while i was on them i started to get tardive dyskenesia, seizures, mania, brain electrocution and mostly complete apathy to life and no desire to do anything i did put on weight but because my natural weight is underweight i just started to look more normal but it looked off because i didn't look like myself its funny you mention heart problems and meds last year at age 21 i had PE (blood clots in lungs and heart) and i almost died im fully recovered now i didn't know there could be a correlation

unfortunately i have to manage my problem without medicine its very hard i also do cbt which helps a little im thinking of telling my doctor to prescribe a strong sedative that i can take occasionally when things get really bad my schizophrenia is also more physical than mental my symptoms include insects crawling on skin, stabbing pains, seizures

That can be only if you allow the most destructive your senses to take over a top. Even in very severe conditions you have a choice usually - or to pull yourself together and calm your feelings or to blindly follow them. And then you can easily kill yourself.
Another option is the reaction of your body on antipsychotics. There is such neuroleptic malignant syndrome, which can lead to death.
It is written in the annotation to the medication.

You need to learn to relax. It's easy to do. Close your eyes and pay attention to the all muscle tenses that deprive you of a comfort. Pay particular attention to the tension of the muscles of the face and head. And then not paying attention to these tensions try to reach a comfortable state

People live with schizoprenia for years if not decades! I do not think it can kill you, but it can get you to kill yourself if you are not strong and resilient enough. the key is to adopt positive mentality and healthy lifestyle. learn to love yourself more and be less stringent with yourself, forgive yourself when you fail to live up to an expectation and allow yourself other chances. See the big picture of life beyond the schizophrenia mountain. You can be happy despite that nightmare.

The biggest risk if you ask me is absent mindedness, doing stupid things, and other people who are less than in tune with the schitzophrenic. They want to dope them up until they are incapacitated, or, if you are the anti-medication type, running amock, means eventually you are going to end up in trouble.

As for illness of the brain which deteriorate and eventually kill.

Comas, no, they require hard injuries to induce.

Worry about your blood pressure, strokes, and so on.

Remember that schitzophrenia is a syndrome, rather than a cause, meaning that your brain may contain a harmless lesion, or a spreading fungus, for all anyone knows, and that could be the cause of your schizophrenia. Fungus is pretty rare, I mean one in a billion type of deal. Hope that helps without freaking you out.

MrSigma, in schizophrenia there is no catastrophic changes of the brain that can kill even in very bad state of health . A greater risk taking to get such brain changes from neuroleptics.
