Books about Schizoid Personality Disorder?

Postby effre44 » Wed Sep 22, 2010 10:40 am

Does anyone know of any good books that focus on Schizoid Personality Disorder?

There are plenty of books on borderline, avoidant etc but I can't find a single thing on Schizoid Personality. And those 'introvert power' books are not the books i'm talking about.

________________________________________________________
These titles generally describe behaviour, motivations, and possible causes for schizoidism, with the exception of 'Disorders of the Self' - by Masterson and Klein, a very enlightening book regarding "what do I do now", i.e. it's the only book which properly covers the psychotherapeutic needs and dynamics for schizoid persons, although some aspects of therapy can also be found in the volumes 'Schizoid phenomena', 'Split-self/split-object', 'The Empty Core', and 'Privacy of the Self'.
An all-round useful book is Split-Self/Split-Object by Philip Manfeild. This book covers more general information than other books, including PD's other than schizoid, and is reasonably easy to read (though with some psychoanalytic jargon). For an insightful and less jargon-filled read you might like to try Karen Horney's 'Neurosis and Human Growth'.
Happy reading.

Read any book by the late, great William F. Masterson, a world-renowned expert on personality disorders.

Yes. Ive read lots of Masterson's books, I think you mean James Masterson tho?

His way of understanding is the only one that really goes deep.

... and Guntrip.

also http://www.selfinexile.com is about schizoid, and based on quite a lot of Masterson approach stuff.

what have you read so far?

Wow, thanks for this!

I've had my eye on Schizoid Phenomena, Object Relations and the Self by Harry Guntrip for a while now. Who here has read it? What did you think of it?
