I don't have aspergers. I don't have it because I don't want it, and I've read about what it's like and despite sharing many traits with people that have it, especially social malfunctions, but I don't have the same thought processes or mental structures as those I know with it that I've talked with.

This test is a little to long for me to take knowing that regardless of my results, that won't change. Thanks for posting though.

Your Aspie score: 154 of 200
Your neurotypical (non-autistic) score: 42 of 200
You are very likely an Aspie

I couldn't find the scores for section, for some reason.

It surprises me. I don't see myself as an aspie and I don't fit the archetypical aspie type, but some of questions rang particularly true: I'm extremely sensitive to sounds: I can't focus on anything, even in my thoughts, if there are unfamiliar or disgusting sounds around; light reflected on surfaces and water fascinate me, I hate being touched, seing things moving in my field of view puts me on edge when I'm trying to concentrate, I have to make a conscious effort to understand how I feel, I usually think in pictures and then I have to translate them to words, etc.

Some of these symptoms overlap with SPD. I guess a psychiatrist would diagnose me with Asperger's or with SPD depending on the manual he'd feel closer to.

Same for me. I took Simon Baron-Cohen's Autism Spectrum Quotient test and scored in the range typical for Asperger's, but I don't have other A's symptoms. I have questioned the connection between schizoid and schizophrenic disorders (the connection between the latter and schizotypal is obvious); schizoid seems more to me like one form of mild autism, Asperger's being another form.

More generally, I wonder whether there are several types of schizoids, not just schizoid co-morbid with some other disorder, but several different causes. When a complex system functions as expected there is nothing wrong with it, if it has some collection of characteristics in addition to the typical ones, as with other personality disorders, we might expect one cause, but when a system lack typical characteristics (e.g. Why won't my car start? Why don't I like friends, family, fun, facial expressions or fornicating?) it could be for any of several reasons: prenatal testosterone poisoning (Baron Cohen's theory for autism), genetics, upbringing, even mercury poisoning from dental work (If I were to get dentures would I have TWO good reasons to smile more? :D )
The Platinum Rule: Be unlike those you dislike.

I dont think you can diagnose aspergers based on hypersensitivity alone

I am extremely hypersensetive, but then again I'm schizoid. Introverts are generally more sensetive to their surroundings, so being schizoid I suppose I should be one of the most sensetive

They were in the PDF file that you could download.

The above goes for me too. Although I'm not sure I "hate" being
touched, I'm at least hyper-sensitive to it.

Some of these symptoms overlap with SPD. I guess a psychiatrist would diagnose me with Asperger's or with SPD depending on the manual he'd feel closer to.

Yeah, I suppose that's why I was diagnosed with Asperger's,
although I never score very high on these tests, nor can I relate to
descriptions of AS and Aspies - they are simply too different from me.

The term "autistic" was first used to describe behaviour seen in
schizophrenia. If you look at the descriptions of the "residual" and
"simple" types of schizophrenia, it is easier to see how schizoid
personality might be part of the same spectrum. Some links:

http://www.aspergersyndrome.com/html/research_paper.html
http://www.mentalhealth.com/icd/p22-ps01.html#Head_7

I think that's quite possible. One type of schizoid PD may have
similar aetiology to depression, while another type may have
similarity to schizophrenia, a third type might be due to brain injury,
a fourth type due to drug effects, etc.

I skimmed through an article on Apserger's on Wikipedia and found many of the traits familiar, particular in being unable to understand other peoples motives and emotions, intense interests, and some rather bizarre sensory fetishes and aversions.

Likewise, all the treatments suggested by my psychiatrist resemble those listed for Aspergers and High-Functioning Autism, albeit here the articles are overly broad. For those interested, it might be worth it to pursue therapies used for mild Autism and Asperger's. Otherwise, the relationship between SPD and disorders like Asperger's is just a matter of taxonomy...
