I have often wondered about that. Ultimately I am specist.... The human race come before any non sentients. .... Get up, Peter, kill and eat!.... But it's harder to look at a humane society advert than a world hunger one... I feel as if it most definitely be the other way around.

I've known more than one person with markedly more compassion for dogs and cats than for humans. My personal theory, untested, is that ultimately we hold our fellow humans more accountable.

Animals are more helpless and vulnerable. They have no choice but to trust the people who keep them, and dogs particularly have boundless unconditional love for their owners, no matter how crappily they're treated. It's as simple as that.

I'm by no means a violent person, but one thing guaranteed to make me see red, is cruelty to animals. I can't deal with that, and if it happened in front of me, there's a good chance I'd go to prison for what I'd do.

Exactly. No one dumped a panhandler on a deserted road cause he couldn't be housebroken. Generally.

Domesticated animals especially, depend on us. We made them so. That confers responsibility on us.

I came back to the thread to add, we have a wonderful capacity in any event, for dehumanizing our fellows. Especially if they're not of our tribe. Governments and idealogues encourage that all the time.

I agree with both of you, snaga2.0 and Graveyard76. I do think that people are more accountable. They are smarter, as a species, and they should know what they are doing. I also absolutely feel that animals are more helpless and vulnerable, and HAVE to trust people (especially pets). And I agree that cruelty to animals, to me, is the one thing that could make me get violent!! I saw a video of a cop shooting a dog. He called the dog over to him and it was wagging its tail and he just shot it. I wanted to KILL that cop for that! If anyone ever hurt my dog I KNOW that I would do everything I could to make sure they regretted it, no matter what it meant for me!!

One of my serious issues. Stories of cops shooting family pets out of hand. Or threatening to. Heaven forbid a mundane harm a police dog, however. Not that I condone perps hurting K9s. But there is a double standard in some places.

I wouldn't want a police dog to be hurt, either, but I understand what you mean. I have heard stories about cops shooting puppies because they felt "threatened". I mean, come on!! It is so strange to me that the guy with the club, the gun, the shotgun, the stun gun, and a radio to call for help can be so afraid of a baby animal!

I know. Despite the recent incidents and the mantras about officer safety, sorry, LEO doesn't even make the top ten most dangerous jobs and most times a cop is killed is in a wreck. Safety.... Is an excuse in some instances.

If there's a market for it and money to be made, you can guarantee it exists.

The reason you won't hear about it though is because the clientele (those who pay for the snuff films) are very rich and very exclusive. These are the people who have some powerful connections and know how to cover their 'indiscretions' extremely well.

Dark Soul, I don't think that is true. It wouldn't only be the rich and powerful who want it; eventually the price would come down or others would tart making it for a "blue collar" crowd. The greed of the producers would get the better of them and it would eventually get out. Just like child porn. SOMEONE would slip and it would get out.

I didn't say only the rich the powerful want snuff films. They're just the ones who can afford them.

Snuff films will never reach a point where the general public can access and afford them them readily.
