Hey, all. Recently I've had this weird obsession where I get the unwanted urge to look up certain sites on the internet. Like sites that have gore pictures, typing something in Google search about how to successfully get away with harming someone, or sites about weapons. I am diagnosed with OCD and I have unwanted harm obsessions. I've yet to visit any sites like this because I frantically shut my laptop and toss it on my bed when I get the thought.
One of my compulsions is reassurance seeking, and as I was going through the traits of a violent person, the description came up about a true violent person might be preoccupied about weapons or visit sites that have to do with violence. This is when I started getting the urges to look up those things on the internet.
Has anybody else had this problem?

When I was new to the internet, I used to enjoy shocking myself alot, unfortunately I became de-sensitized to it. I don't know if that's compulsive in my case, or just plain juvenile curiosity.

Hi Petalzz,
I can relate to the compulsion of researching to prove that you are not a violent or harmful person. At the beginning I would constantly search and make sure I didn't compare or like the thought. It was helpful at first but then the compulsion to analyze moves to something else. That is probably why yours has moved to looking up weapons, as a sub conscious ploy to see if you are really interested in them. However, that is another tick of OCD to get you to participate. Avoid the checking, but don't freak out about it. Just calmly tell yourself "OCD wants me to do this, but I don't want to so I am not giving in". Then try to distract your mind with something else around you.
