Would you consider my friend NPD?

Postby horizon987 » Thu Jul 19, 2012 9:14 pm

Hello.

I'm wondering if one of my friends has Narcissistic Personality Disorder? Here are the reasons: My friend always feels he superior. When he was a child he was bullied a lot, and I think he tells himself he's superior as dealing with all the bullying, and getting himself to look down on all the people who've bullied him as, 'inferior' and 'low-functioning.' He lacks empathy. He is always thinking about the perfect women or man. (he's bisexual) When ever he sees someone with a low paying job, he instantly shuns them, and try's not to make contact with them. He told me, 'I don't want to be one of them, I'm superior to them.' He's told me his plans for domination of the whole of europe. He wants to be the Prime Minister of The United Kingdom, where he lives.

He's only ever been in 1 relationship, and that only lasted 2 weeks. He said, 'I just didn't love her.' But he's fallen in love before with someone. When ever he talks he sounds like he's talking down on people, he does it deliberately. He loves people giving him attention, especially if it's to do with him. But not negative attention. He's very arrogant, ignorant and impulsive.

What do you think?

Why is he your friend if he is like your description above?

We share interests, and enjoy having brunch together, but do you think he's possibly NPD?

I don't know , being an arrogant person and having a personality disorder are very different things , I can't diagnose him. As I gathered from your description , he does sound arrogant though.

Narcissistic Personality Disorder is rare, so the odds are that he does not have it.
