Effort and motivation

Postby Winteriscoming » Sun Jul 16, 2017 9:03 pm

Although my more acute symptoms are well managed I still have the problems of decreased motivation and it takes an increased effort to perform even simple everyday tasks. My research suggests these are quite common problems. How do you cope with them?

I've had some success with gamifying them. https://habitica.com/ or http://www.chorewars.com/ are good, free options for that. There's also https://www.superbetter.com/ but I haven't used that. As it seems to rely heavily on having "allies."

Another thing that can work. Is to tie them to something that is rewarding. For example. Watching episodes of a favourite TV show while exercising. Or listening to an anticipated album. While making dinner.

Or assess whether they really need to be done. :D Cleaning your teeth each day is very much worth doing somehow. But. If cleaning the bathroom daily. Is on your everyday list. That probably could slip to weekly / monthly / when it's really gross.
