What part of internet do you find most addictive?

Postby Yoon » Sun Jul 10, 2011 8:38 am

(I) Computer gaming
(II) Social / Social networking (Ex. facebook and forums)
(III) News
(IV) Porn/Obcene materials
(V) Others

For me

I > III > II

-I find computer gaming really really addictive, games I like to play are Action, Strategy, and MMORPG.
-Followed by READING NEWS: yes you heard it, I have no reason why, but I crave for a lot of information that seems to be so irrevant to my life, as a result, I literally spend hours digging for useless information on the internet from news sites (Especially CNN.com). :|
-Lastly social networking: I don't really use facebook or forums; however, in conjunction with playing games, I do seem to have this regular urgency to maintain contact with friends I've made playing the games online. Probably because there is more virtual friends than real friends... Which kinda sux :(

used to be all of them equal, games dragging slightly behind unless i got hooked on something in particular. for social it was MSN/IRC, thats dropped off the map though thanks to other issues.

wikis are killer, click, read, click, read... suddenly its morning, similar are news sites with top/related stories. those be a little useful if any of the information was really relevant or if i really retained any of it but i mostly seems to all slip away by the next day. the mix of music on youtube or spotify and music sites/wikipedia is pretty potent. 'one more song' but then i find some new artist or subgenre and burn through another hour or two without even noticing.

when i've got into a game i've gone multiple days without sleep regularly, my interest usually only sticks for a couple weeks to a month though.

recently street fighter 4 has been my thing from midnight to when ever i decide to sleep, porn and browsing before that but sometimes i can't drag myself away from the browser (like tonight for instance).

There is one forum, a political one, which i am addicted to. I can't stop going there every day. I am also addicted to internet pornography, although i have actually gone two days without viewing any. Overall, i am addicted to the internet itself. I spend hours on end every night surfing.

PORN. I have a serious problem. I'm on school holidays currently and I'm supposed to be finishing a major history project, doing tonnes of homework, preparing study notes for the year.. I'm aiming for quite high grades, it's my final year before going to uni. But I wank probably 2-3 times a day, sometimes more I don't even count anymore because it's just impulse. I spend hours watching ordinary porn videos, reading erotica stories, on webcam sites, chatrooms, just doing stupid $#%^ for fun, when I should be spending all this time on schoolwork. I'm a good writer and aspire to write fantasy novel series, but instead I waste time writing erotic stories instead of actual books... O.O

YOUTUBE. Another massive problem. I spend hours everyday watching youtube videos, the majority of which are just extremely stupid, random, pointless and hilarious so I can't stop. :(

I know porn is pointless, it doesn't benefit nor improve me as a person, (I forgot to add, I have 40GB of downloaded porn/pics). It's just for pleasure, which makes it seem harmless and thus makes it addictive.. but I really have to stop. It's impacting on my sleep, mood, schoolwork.. everything.

Social networking, and news... if you count constant celebrity gossip. I love celebrity gossip. I'm an "information seeker", so I constantly want to know things.... all the time. It doesn't help that I'm naturally a nosey person (grew up with nosey family members, it rubs off) and will always want to find out everything.
Things will get better.

MMORPG's & games with chat features. World of Warcraft, Smeet, Second Life, Wartune and the like. I don't know why.

I noticed when I play games like that I am entertained by the game itself, while I release my anger & frustrations at other people. I guess what I'm trying to say is... I bully people online. :( Insulting people makes me feel good, even though I know it isn't right! And I know it angers me when someone has a "better" insult than I do. It pleases me when people agree or add onto my insults at others. I don't know why & I carry the guilt of being childish for doing such things. But for some reason though I don't feel guilty for hurting people. There are times, however, that I feel nothing but nice too. It's like I judge who I feel deserves my positive or negative attention. If someone says something that I think is stupid, I purposely find a way to insult them.

I think it's an attention or control thing, I just don't know. I was abused & bullied throughout my life; I don't know if that has something to do with it, maybe? Anyway, that's my internet addiction.

@Yoon, I also feel the need to keep more internet friends (the people I seem to not want to insult) than I do IRL friends. Maybe it's because I know I will never meet them so I don't feel intimidated by being judged or treated in a negative way? I don't have to see them everyday, type thing. Idk.

When I turn my computer on as soon as I wake up, I click on Microsoft Outlook for email and Internet Explorer. I have google.com, nbcnews.com, facebook.com, Netflix.com, and twitter.com as home pages. I find nbcnews.com and netflix.com the most addictive at this moment in time. I have to read the news multiple times a day to make sure I'm not missing breaking news. I have to be there as soon as something big happens right from the start. When they were looking for the Boston bomber, I was in a frenzy. I had the TV on behind me and I was reading twitter reports from Boston.com and began posting it on Facebook. Three other people joined in we were all posting the latest news. I remember when they said they were going to stop looking for him and then I heard on TV that shots were fired and went into a frenzy again posting on Facebook. I was addicted to Facebook, until my obsession with Netflix began.
