Drowning/Suffocation Fetish

Postby ender6137 » Tue May 31, 2011 5:10 am

I'm an eighteen year old girl who's really funny and nice and creative and all that jazz, but what I've never told anyone is that I'm turned on by watching drowning or suffocation. Not sexual dunking or asphyxiation, but just straight out scenes in movies where people are gasping for breath or coughing or having trouble breathing. It's the only thing I can give me an orgasm. I do this a lot because I like orgasms, and I don't usually feel too guilty because I know I would never actually want to do this to a person (although it does make me doubt my morality), but I'm starting to worry that if I indulge this too much it will literally be the only thing that can turn me on. I masturbate to some gay porn and other stuff, but drowning and suffocation is the only thing that really gets me going. I'm frustrated because I can't talk to anyone about it. I don't want anyone to know. I know this fetish isn't normal. Am I perverted? Am I going to be a serial killer? Why does this turn me on? What can I do to be more turned on by other stuff? Should I just turn down my sexuality and stop masturbating so much? What should I do? I graduate high school this week as an honors society member. I'm a good writer and loving person. I want to know if this fetish ruins those qualities.

Being normal is highly overrated =).

I think you are overthinking this to much! You should not let it bother, you. This fetish means nothing towards who you are as a person, but it does sound more so in the asphyxiophilia section. I don't think anyone has really coined a paraphilia towards drowning. Asphyxiophilia deals with suffocation (up to and including being suffocated yourself in some cases) but that doesn't mean you have to. All paraphilias have broad spectrum's of what the person enjoys.

Are you perverted? Well, in a sense this could be 'viewed' as a "perversion"
Will you turn into a serial killer? I highly doubt it. This is something sexual, a fantasy.
Why does it turn you on? There is still a lot of studying that has to be done to paraphilias, there is no definitive answer to why some people have fetishes like this.
What can you do to be more turned on by other things? Hard to say, I myself find it hard to be turned on by many other things other than paraphilic infantilism (DL), so I can't answer this (possibly some form of therapy - but I don't think you need it)

Good luck.

Thanks. It made me feel better to put that out there and have someone tell me it's okay.

Hi ender6137,

I agree with what NonAnonymousEnough wrote. Your fetish definitely does not ruin any of your good qualities. It is simply part of your sexuality - part of the complex being that is you! You can be both a loving person and have a fetish or paraphilia. It is not something that you need to be ashamed of.

One reason you may want to try to control your paraphilia in the future is if it impacts negatively on a sexual relationship. It may not be practical to have your partner drown regularly, and it would be a shame if this was the only way you could enjoy sex!
But you may find that when you're with a partner that you are not dependent on this paraphilia. Sex can be a lot more interactive and exciting than masturbation, particularly if you have strong feelings for your partner. So with some practice and your partner’s support, you may be able to orgasm without needing to think about drowning or asphyxiation.

But if it the paraphilia does create stress or problems for you, you could speak to a sex therapist to find out ways to control it better.
No diagnosis, lots of opinions, and a bunch of issues that I haven't quite figured out.

Thanks very much, Platypus. I think you're right about masturbation being different than real sexual encounters. I don't think that I would ever be turned on by a person actually drowning even if I knew he was safe. I really appreciate the reassurance you and NotAnonymousEnough gave me. I was worried that my fetish indicated some deep-seated cruelty. Thanks so much for helping me realize it's just a quirk. It's a huge weight off my shoulders.

I think it might be more of a fantasy and nothing wrong with mastubating to it. I have a few odd thoughts I masturbate to but would never act on them in real life, thats the joy of a fantasy and really there is no need to share it with those close to you. So no it does not make make you a bad person or a pervert.

I have a quicksand fetish, among others, which revolves around the idea of drowning and suffocation.

ooh, breathplay. ^.^

This isn't really something bad.

Though, can the fantasy get you off, or do you have to *see* it?

Hi there,
I am a guy, totally into the same thing. The only difference, i am totally submissive or better said masochistic. Don't worry, i think your fantasy is totally ok. You wouldn't believe how many people are out there with the same fetish.
For my part i love to imagine, that a woman or more persons overpower me and start asphyxiating me in any way. Choking, drowning, strangling, hanging, suffocating etc. etc. , it's all part of it.
Am i sick? Well, i asked that to myself many times. Just like you, i cannot talk to anyone about that matter. But what can i do, it just turns me on. It's too hard to resist.
Actually i am surprised that you are more on the dominant side. Most women seemingly are masochistic. It's seems seldom for women to actually asphyxiate a person. Well i might be wrong. Maybe there are many more out there than i can imagine.
Wow, the thought of you being a dominant suffocator just turns me on right now. Well ok, my advice: Just enjoy it, don't think of yourself being sick or so. For me actually it's so nice to see that i am not the only one on this planet with this fetish.

Nice meeting you here  :D
