Social anxiety causing a little to be mute.

Postby ThatPerson » Tue Nov 24, 2015 6:31 am

hey we got a little named Daimen. I know he knows English cus he writes on the littles thread. But he literally can't make the voice work when he's fronting. And no one else can either when he's fronting. And for a while after he's fronted whoever comes out can't either
And when I say can't I mean literally we physically can't make our voice box work. Makes it hard to communicate when he's around cus if he's even near its harder to talk.
Anyone got any experience or advice on that?
Thanks for reading and responding to any who do

Hello! We have a little who is a mute, too. Took a while to realize he was mute, though. Just thought he didn't like to talk but now we know he simply can't or doesn't know how to make the voice box work. He doesn't talk on the inside either. Another little kind of acts as his voice.

As for the mutism spreading from one specific alter, I'd think that it ought to be similar to any other aspect spreading from one alter to another. Do you have an especially loud/talkative alter/little? Maybe suggesting their presence prior to or after the mute little's presence could help balance it out?

Also you could try seeking out some speech therapy materials, find out how mutism in children is usually treated since littles are in essence like real children, aren't they? :)

he can type but he doesn't really talk inside either. Just kinda makes faces or has strong emotions. Sometimes he whispers. We don't have any other littles that we know of.

Maybe he could post in the littles thread :) Since he can type that is. It could be a start.

Aww, that's so precious! Our littles are usually bribe-able by candy or stickers. BunBun especially likes unicorns. And energy drinks, that little girl is a caffeine monster if you let her have it!

Teehee. Stuffies are really good for making littles feel safe.

Hi Steve. Keith is like that. He rarely speaks inside. Usually Sasha communicates for him since he's too shy to speak to the older people in our system. I don't really know if it's social anxiety or if he is just silent and that's just how he is.
I have ADHD. Possibly have another mental disorder but am not certain.

We have 26 inside kids, and about half of them don't speak. They communicate empathically.

We've found it best to accept them as-is. If they need to communicate with us, they find a way.
