I was just diagnosed with DID. My previous diagnosis include bipolar and PTSD. Now this, I'm in shock but I can also recognize some symptoms in me. My question, how could this go unnoticed for so long? I'm thirty something. Wouldn't my family have noticed personality shifts? Any advice or comments would be helpful. Thanks

DID can be a very covert disorder. This is why misdiagnosis is common with people with DID taking 8 to 10 years for a person to be correctly diagnosed. For a lot of people with DID their systems are by design to be hidden which is the reason most with this disorder find it hard in getting treatment from the mental health community. We do wish you the best in your healing.

I was thinking about my birth family and husband. I guess I had imagined dramatic personality shifts, that would be noticeable to others. As I read, I'm learning my assumptions and reality differ. I was talking to my sister today and she admitted that a T years ago told her she was dissociating. She thought the T was stupid and never returned. I'm scared but almost relieved in a way by this diagnosis.

Learning has will help tremendously. Your intelligent enough of course it isn't hard to understand our diagnoses since we were this way long time ago. when to actually take it serious, what I mean by serious is mapping and knowing what personality is front so eventually you can be co-conscious. A good committed therapist should be able to help you with peice to puzzle listening encouraging you all to speak and eventuall memories will possibly surface.
