words instead of wounds

Postby theonlyredsmurf » Tue Sep 02, 2014 9:25 am

To exorcise my personal demons I write, frequently graphic though still somewhat restrained.
I am wondering if others here have thought of this as a coping mechanism?
I may accompany the words, either writing them for the first time or re-reading them with pressure from a blunt instrument such as a key or small spoon.
I find that the better I can make the image in my mind the better it works, though others may find this a triggering action in themselves so it is not for everyone.

what do you guys do / think?

I used to journal to get things out a lot in the past. I have not done for a while but getting negative thoughts and desires out used to help me a lot. I still keep my old journals and notebooks but dont read them

Dear theonlyredsmurf,
I think what you have said is a very good idea to help you express yourself/work through your feelings. If it works for you, keep at it! :) When I feel the urge to SH, sometimes I have scribbled words that describe how I am feeling at that moment onto a small piece of paper, in all directions and with little doodles as well at times. Then I scribble all over it until it is completely covered. Then tear it up into tiny little pieces. I read about it on some list of alternatives somewhere. Sometimes it distracts me for a while. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. But at least it works sometimes. Its good to see your positive thread. All the best xx
