The Mod Team have been coming up with some formal policies on how to manage posts which make reference to suicide. This is because members' safety is a priority. It is vital that we avoid a situation where someone does not get the help they need and ends up committing suicide.
This is the policy
1. If there is reference to suicide in passing such as "my Mum committed suicide" or "I made a suicide attempt last year" then the post can be left as it is and usually left in the forum it was posted in. However there may be occasions where it needs to be moved to SI and if this happens a mod will PM the member explaining
2. If there is talk about suicide in more depth but no definite plan the post will be moved to SI and the member PMed about this
3. If there is a definite, current plan expressed then this is beyond the scope of the site as we are not professionals and this is a peer support site. It is important that they seek urgent 3D help - this is their priority. For this reason the thread will be moved to SI but locked with a post urging them to get help and links to ways they can do this.
The priority here is to avoid a member committing suicide.
