Isn't it the depth and characteristics which are discovered over a longer period of time, the ones upon which you can build something more permanent.

my life is too nomadic to have someone carry such a long term position.

I have several male friends like this and I value them a lot...

1) Yes, there's a 1st/perpetual/permanent crush. There's a girl I've known since nursery school that, even to this day, if she walked up to me and said "take me away", I'd drop everything and everyone for her.

2) Yes, men and women can just be friends. Another girl, whom I've also known since nursery school, has been just friends with me our entire lives. Neither one of us has made a romantic overture to the other...ever. We're more like sister and brother (or an old married couple) now!

3) Does a "friend" ever hit on me? Regrettably, I have yet to experience this one. The few who have hit on me are pretty obvious from the start, and we've never been friends first.

1) yes
2) maybe
3) yes

I played doctor with other kids a lot when I was young, of both genders. I had crushes and was crushed on.

I have male friends I consider to be friends and nothing more, but they may want more. I also have male friends I would like more with but they are not interested. I think in male/female friendships, one person usually wants more and the other wants just friendship.

Yes, I've had friends hit on me.
