Searching for Bipolar Vloggers (video blogging)

Postby weiqian9 » Sun Aug 05, 2012 11:04 pm

Hey!
I am kinda into video editing, and was thinking of starting a youtube channel with regular (preferably weekly) video's about how we are coping with our bipolar disorder.

I want to do this anonymous (under a nickname). And I am looking for people who kinda know how to cut and edit video's (imovie or windows movie maker is totally fine), or want to learn (I can teach). (and I assume you speak English)

I was thinking of having 4 other people (total 5), and everyone has a day. So if you have ~2 hours left a week.... Just so we can sort of video talk with each other and have an online support video group. This way, we can help each other, but also help other people who watch our vids.

The goal I had in mind is to sort of give each other an inside of what we are going through, how we solve it, how we are coping, pitfalls, and just rant to each other - people who know what we are talking about.

I personally wouldn't want to go to a local support group - it's too local and you really don't get to know those people that much.. So for me this would really work!

Just to summarize:
- online video support group about bipolar disorder
-1-2 hours a week
- give each other tips and help about our disorder
- speak English
- have interest or basic video editing skills :)

I think this is a really good idea! I would be reluctant to contribute because I am so secretive about having BP, but I will ask some of my friends who also have BP what they think about it. I wish you lots of success!

Hi there.

I used to have some interest in vlogging. I'm effectively mute in real life and I feel that vlogging would help with that. I actually already have a youtube channel. (Although I can't for the life of me remember the account name or password...) I also used to have some interest in videography and have some experience in video editting. (You probably have more though...)

Vlogging is a high anxiety activity for me and my preference is to do it with the only people who know about it are total strangers. I view it as something I would do once every few months, not once a week. I also feel that having seperate accounts for everyone would be more prudent. Well, that's my input. I'm not in a situation where I'd be able to participate in any case.

I have the same thing with being secretive! (especially due to my work ...)
Vlogging with strangers, i think, would be better, since..well, they are strangers .. hehe ;)

Why I thought having just one password and channel (which everyone shares) makes it more anonymous. Most people probably are from the uk or america, from here, and I'm from Holland. So people really do not know where you are from, if you use only one channel.

And I wanted it to be weekly, since you really build up a bond, I think, or something...

@exiled - also, I think we can use a "gues appearence ;D", if you wouldn't want to do it regularly ^^?

I can see the benefit of a shared password. My concern is that someone regrets uploading a video and later wants to delete it but not have access to it.

I'd seriously consider making a "guest appearance."

Well naturally, the person who makes the vid has every right to delete it later on ;)
Just... deleting other peoples vids would be a possible concern, but I more or less see that as a trust issue :D

And if they don't want their environment to know that they're bipolar, no one will ever find out, since youtube is so massive... and they don't have to use thei real name -not even first name if they don't want :)

Thats why I thought of a youtube channel, a small support group, bipolarz for bipolarz. I don't like the idea of a local support group...too local ... however, I DO miss the idea and having people around me who know what I'm going through and been through it myself... :)

I decided to do some looking, and I found a girl on YouTube who has Borderline Personality that does videos on the topic. http://www.youtube.com/user/xsullengirlx Same sorta idea, but I think you could do it better. :)

Yeah, I also did some research :)
There are some people who vlog but no groups! Also, for me, it kinda keeps me motivated if you'd do it as a group :)

Now off to bed! Hopefully tomorrow the whole forum has gone wild and 738927477 people have shown interest :D
And we can start 1777channels or so xD

In a couple weeks I will be buying a rather nice media centered laptop (HP Beats) and once I get that I was actually thinking of doing some Vlogging. Not necessarily on this topic but just on life in general.

I would be ok with doing this. Since I am rapid cycle I think I could probably do one a week, maybe one a day  . In a support group scenario I am not that shy and don't really care what I say to strangers. I am not great at editing film however, so does it have to be a Vlog with fancy effects or can it just be a simple Vlog?

Would we be able to post our videos to our own Youtube Vlog as well as to the one you set up?

Well, they are your videos, so of course you can also upload them to your own channel :)

I was thinking of a simple vlog. Just sitting away fhe long pauses :)

And we still need 3 more people xD..!
