The ball has stopped rolling. What can I do?

Postby mickeymoo » Mon Feb 08, 2010 10:34 am

I had my phone assessment with MHS today and its been a complete and utter joke.

I told her I was in a very very gd mood. I told her that in the past when I have been in a very gd mood I cause problems for myself-spending too much, relationships, walking out on jobs etc.

I told her I need no more than 3 hrs sleep a night and I have bundles of energy and I am getting more as time goes on. I told her I am going to fast to be able to keep up with myself.

She then told me they offer low levels and high levels of sessions and she think I would be suited to low levels as I seem to have anxiety!!! I can expect an appt to come through in 2 months! I asked what I can do in the meantime because I can't keep up with myself and I can feel myself getting faster! She told me to get a job to channel my energy into!!!!!!! I told her I would walk out. She ignored me and told me to get a job again!! I told her I have a 3yr old and can't work full time. She told me to get a job again!!

What can I do now? What can I do to be taken seriously?

Get a 2nd opinion.
I have 3 shrinks. And there's a reason.

This wasn't even a shrink. Just someone from the mental health services. I have complained to my dr and she totally understand and has told me to keep in touch with her. She says she is unable to speed up the wait though?

What am I supposed to do? How do I go about getting a second opinion through the NHS? I know this isn't going to end happily if I have to wait 2 months plus just to see a low level therapist. I can feel myself getting faster everyday and having more energy and needing less sleep. I did tell her this but she just wasn't listening. I am already struggling to keep up with myself (if that makes sense) and this has only been happening for a month.

If only I hadn't gone on so many shopping sprees perhaps I could have afforded to go private, just to get a diagnosis!!! I am already selling stuff but only to raise money for more shopping!

I don't know what the NHS is...
But why don't you just open a phone book and call an ACTUAL shrink?

National Health Service (uk). I have looked up psychiatrists in the yellow pages and there is no listing for them. I have looked online and cannot find any either. All I keep coming across is psychotherapists and I'm not sure if thats the same?

Psychotherapy is talk therapy (as I recall from psychology class).
They will work.
They may or may not be able to give you medication, but they can put in a recommendation to your physician and then your physician can do it, if you need it.

Call a psychotherapist.
They aren't as awful as the name implies.
