Is there any specific day in the year that triggers you?

Postby gabbygabby12 » Sat Oct 08, 2016 11:35 pm

Hi all!

I have bipolar type 2, and I always really struggle on new year's day.
I attempted suicide when i was 17 on nyd, and ever since then that day, no matter how great im doing, is very hard.

Also sundays make me feel really gross, so I have to keep busy.

What about you guys?

Not a specific date, but Christmas season is very hard on me. I seem to always get depressed. For something like over 10 years now. I don't know why. How does it affect you, in what ways?

+1 to Xmas. Not for BP related reasons – it used to be a big family gathering, then when I came out a part of my family rejected me, later my Grandma died and now it's me and my closest family sitting together for an hour before one of my brothers goes to see his wife's fam and the other runs away to his room. I celebrate Yule now instead, because it has a meaning for me and unlike Xmas it doesn't hurt me to think about it. And I see my family (who live abroad) either before or after the period.
Currently working on my upcoming signature.

Due to several unresolved issues with my father, the 19th of September (date of death) and the 17the of December (date of birth) are the two days that can be considered by "largest trigger" days.

Seasonal depression in the fall/winter. I take 4,000 IU Vitamin D3 daily to help with that and try to get out in the sun: skiing, pond hockey, etc. Springtime is usually mania so I try to get plenty of sleep.
Be kind to everyone you come across because you never know who’s suffering inside.

yeah for years i felt down during the holiday season.

Like Oliveira, I celebrate Yule... it gets to be whatever I want it to be, to honor that day with whoever I want, and make my own traditions. That's helpful!

November has always been my dysphoricly manic month. Hopefully not this year. I am also without doubt cycling in march/april as well.

January/febuarary used to be upsetting for me because that's around the time of my first taste of Bipolar. Hit me like a train at full force. Back 7-8 years ago it made me scared because I thought I was only a year or two away from the days I was a broken mess, barely functional. I was afraid it would happen again. Now I think i've forgotten about it or don't care as much as I can. I realize the trauma of the disorder has been gone for a while and I have to keep it in the past now i've lived so long with it and found recovery.
Do not be proud of your disorder, be proud it does not define you and your struggles with it.

Halloween and the one or two weeks leading up to Halloween. It usually makes me hypomanic and triggers my substance abuse every year.
