So I've been taking zinc regularly to try to combat the acne from my lamotrigine for a while now. It hasn't been working well, and it makes me nauseous after taking it, but last night I was so frustrated that I took double the dose without really thinking about it. I spent half the night near the toilet waiting to throw up, and after a short while started getting dizzy. The dizziness got way worse, the nausea persisted, and by the time I got to bed, I was having bad distortionary hallucinations (which I usually only get with mania). I felt detached from reality, like I was in a bad dream, and my partner said I was talking really loud and fast without making much sense.
I know most of this (except the fast thoughts/speech) was caused by the zinc, having done a little research this morning, but I was wondering if anyone had ever had zinc toxicity exacerbate your (hypo)mania? I was tending up without realizing it anyway, the subtle productive sneaky kind, but by the end of the night I was completely freaking out.
(Btw, I normally take 50mg zinc gluconate, which is only 7.15mg elemental zinc I think, and I took 100mg instead, which I obviously won't be trying again.) Help?
