Wow, this got...much more attention than i was expecting it to. Overall...the responses kind of make me think there's more to the personality disorders and more than likely other mental disorders also than we may think. As how often have you ever heard of someone with an actual personality disorder being cured? Sure some of us get to the point we've been able to work past our issues to a point we can life a more normal life than before, but I don't think I've ever heard of anything being straight up better.
Personally, it seems like the reasons why we lie seem...entirely different in regards to how it actually emotionally effects than the average person. At best we almost seem to lie to protect those around us, otherwise most of us seem to have a great dislike us lying all together, me included(I'm greatly interested in politics for instance, but I'm SOO sick of all the BS everyone in it says it makes me increasingly angry).
The average person I don't believe is like this. As you've all mentioned, friends who lie about larger stuff, about themselves, their lives and so on. Then you look at people with other personality disorders, and the differences there seem to be just as much of a stark contrast also. I'm beginning to wonder if the root cause in regards to personality disorders is more with how our brain is wired.
More sociopathic people tend to have little issues lying about anything, it barely affects them emotionally, or maybe they actually get real joy in regards to it or related to it. Us as avies, almost abhor it for the most part, we can understand to an extent to why it is done, but for the most part its not generally something we can relate to very well. We'd prefer to just get the truth out as its both easier on us, and we feel easier compared to if we hid it instead. Normal people who dont have these issues, more often than not lie to protect their ego(I mean more than just a persons self esteem here, the larger picture of the whole thing) or protect others around them. Someone does something wrong, they know they did something wrong, but they lie hoping no one will find out, even though they know what happened might have been very bad or wrong.
The stark differences seem...almost too different for there not to be a larger connection or cause behind this, MOAR research is needed!
PS: mostly doing this for my own personal interests. I find the brain and the human mind and how it functions, fascinating, and that show i watched kicked started my thinking on the matter even more than normal. Just a normal high school drop out, who only recently got his GED being interesting in something, XD
