Can you make people laugh

Postby Anxious58 » Mon Jul 16, 2012 3:19 am

I read that males who can't make the opposite sex laugh are leaving themselves out of the evolutionary cycle, unless they are super hot. While women don't need humour because males are attracted to them regardless.

Humor isn't my strength, but I can make people laugh.

Humor definitely does seem to be on the top of the list for a lot of people, both male and female. I guess it kinda comes down to that people want to feel better being around someone they like than not.

I should try humor a bit more often, I don't use it as much as I should.

Sometimes I can, sometimes I can't.

While I agree that humour may be a strong asset that attracts the opposite sex, I think many people that say it's on top of their list say it not to sound too shabby. Because we sometimes hear that we should like people for who they are on the inside, not the outside.

Surely not every women is the same, some simply value humour more than others.

Another funny thing (pun intended) that I've noticed, just from my own personal experience as a female aspie, is that people don't even expect women to be humorous! Whenever I make a joke in front of people who don't know me, it takes them a second to realize I'm actually intending to be funny (presumably because they didn't expect it) and then they laugh. Whereas if my gregarious husband makes a joke, it's immediately accepted and laughed at.
I an interesting side note!

I think what you said is largely true though, since most women are not as visual as most men and look more to the personality than to looks (repeat: most), it stands to reason that in general males NEED to show humor more in order to attract the opposite sex.

I can make people laugh. Most of the time it's just by my talking, because I deliver what people already think are jokes with no change in demeanor. I do know jokes, though.

Why don't doctors have sex very often?

Because they're waiting for the swelling to go down.

I have been known to make other people laugh ... without trying to, because I say something with "other non-literal" connotations without realising  I don't do it so much these days, thank goodness.

My husband, an NT, is by his own admission a grumpy so-and-so, but he still makes me laugh, often because he's grumpy and doesn't realise it. His sense of humour is too sophisticated for me, but he likes trying to tell me jokes he knows I won't get

This reminds me of one time I was playing pictionary and I was trying to draw "rodeo". My brother couldn't figure it out so I said "Don't you know a bucking horse when you see one?" .... And in true Aspie form I couldn't understand why they started laughing so hard and then I got upset because they were laughing at me. They finally had to explain to me that what I said rhymed with something I would never say out loud!

I'm fairly decent at using situational humor. Someone else has to say something, be in a certain situation, or be in the middle of some great irony in order for me to crack a joke.

Of course the normal AS stuff sometimes makes people laugh too. I don't mind that either.

As far as making people laugh on cue, that's pretty much impossible for me.
