Differences between Aspergers and AD(H)D.....

Postby Robot575 » Wed Sep 28, 2011 2:15 am

Now! This is a VERY puzzling one for me and has been a struggle for me to mentally put to rest..

First off: I do show AS symptoms. The obsessing, the sensory issues, the interests, the inter-human emotional understanding, et cetera.

However...there is one thing that also makes me curious: my attention span. Normally, I can listen to what a person is saying or talking about and I'll listen intently for hours straight (then I go do something else when it's done and I can forget completely ). However there are points where my my attention does break.

In boring situations, I'll get what I need to get done (usually) and then deal with everything else later.

My question is what is the difference between an ADD attention span and an Aspie attention span with a lot of sidetractions

not sure if this helps... but for me at least, my attention span depends if what i'm doing is within my interests. Taking right now as an example, i should be doing a school paper but i'm not interested on the topic at hand so i find myself taking lots and lots of breaks as i get distracted by other more interesting things. When it comes to my hobbies/interests though, i can keep at it for hours on end (though i admit i sometimes space out in my thoughts even when i'm interested in the conversation/topic)...

What you described is archetypal aspie. I don't understand where ADD comes in :?

Where the ADD would come in, if at all plausible, would be the fact that I can get really really bored and thus somewhat restless. Of course unlike my friend, he starts drawing and I listen intently. Even with math I'll listen...and thats the subject that.
A: I find most difficult and
B: most boring.....

Oh gosh.......my 3rd grade teacher is coming back to haunt me

Hardly ADD. I had such a math teacher, he had an unique way to get my attention, he slapped me across the fingers with the thin edge of a meter long ruler.

Made me lose the little interest in math pretty quick.
